Yearly Family Photos :: Catching Up With Families Every Year

annual family photos

One of the greatest things about being a family photographer is getting the chance to catch up with families for their yearly photos. For some, this is more about capturing each chapter of their child’s life with milestone photos. And for others it is a chance to update photo albums and get a new photo for their holiday card. No matter what the reasoning is, I know one thing: I love it! Whether it’s during the sunshine of summer or the foliage of fall, in my studio or outside, I love my annual family portrait sessions.

And there is also my Ideas for Family Photos Pinterest page!

Yearly Seasonal Mini Sessions

Since I offer seasonal mini sessions every year, many families choose this as their yearly portrait session for their child. Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Christmas are the holidays that I have done mini sessions for in the past. There are also plenty of parents who are in the studio every holiday season. Whether it’s to sit beside Santa, or just to get into the Christmas spirit, these holiday mini sessions are a great excuse for family pictures! Worried about the time constraints of a mini session? I also offer full sessions during the winter holidays.

Miss L is one that has been coming to me since she was a baby. And while she hasn’t missed out on an Easter session yet (see below)–I also see her every year for a family portrait session as well. I just love watching her grow up–especially alongside a fluffy bunny!

Miss L and Mr. J have been coming to my studio for Christmas photos for years–I love watching these siblings grow!

Yearly Milestone Family and Child Portrait Sessions

Whether your goal is to capture milestones or birthdays, or to update your family photo for holiday cards, annual photos are a fun tradition. I know that the idea of a full family portrait session can seem daunting. But my staff and I have been doing this for a long time–we have plenty of tricks up our sleeves! My goal is to make every session as stress-free as possible for parents and children alike. I offer both in-studio and outdoor sessions all year long.

I photographed Miss B for the first time when she was just one! And I just recently photographed her for her seventh birthday!! Time sure does fly. I’ve only featured four of her sessions on the blog (so far), so click any picture to check out the full post!

I have been photographing the P family for so long! Which means that I have literally watched these boys grow up. I love getting to see them, whether it’s in the studio, at the beach, or taking advantage of the fall weather!

I have been photographing these four since big brother was in mama’s belly! Their family photo sessions are always so much fun. They’re always down to get a little crazy, which I appreciate about them!

I remember when the S family was a family of 4 way back in 2011!–and now they’re a family of 5! Watching the girls become big sisters to their little brother, welcoming baby bro into the fam, and having tons of fun.

The B family usually does their fall family portrait session outside. But we did switch things up a few years ago with an indoor session! Click on each picture to see the full blog post.

Fall and Summer Mini Sessions

Not only do I offer holiday mini sessions. But I also offer family mini sessions in the fall and summer. These are held on specific days and allow for families to get family portraits taken in a quick, manageable session. Since these sessions are 15 minutes they can be a great option for some families. However, they definitely are not for everyone. Every family is different, and you know your family best. If your little ones need more time to get comfortable, or if you want more variety, a full session might be the better option!

This sweet family started coming to my fall family mini sessions when they were a family of three. They added little brother to the family which has only made their family photo sessions more fun!
