Outdoor Tree Farm Family Photos :: Somerville Photographer
There are so many things that I love about taking portraits in my studio. I have complete control over the temperature, the lighting, what props and accessories there are. And this has so, so many benefits. But sometimes, there is just nothing like some outdoor photos. Especially when those outdoor photos are tree farm family photos! These tree farm photos are one of the (very few) positive things to come from 2020. I had seen other photographers offering tree farm sessions over the years but I had never done them before. But since I suddenly felt myself in need of more social distancing friendly options, the Crabapple Tree Farm sessions were born! While I do offer mini sessions at the tree farm, this session is such a great example of why a full family portrait session is a great idea!
Making the Most of Your Outdoor Family Session
This family is one that I have been photographing for years. Which makes it so, so much fun to see them every year. I can still remember mom’s outdoor maternity session when she was pregnant with little bro! I love that this family is always willing to have some fun during their session. Whether that means donning matching pajamas during in-studio Christmas photos, or rocking knit pom-pom hats for these outdoor photos. I can always count on them to look hip and stylish. Mom’s plaid shirt is the perfect complement to big bro’s plaid–the same print in different colors like this is something some people shy away from but I think it works perfectly! And dad’s vest is such a great pop of color!
The great thing about outdoor photos is the ability to run around and burn off some energy. If you’re willing to get a little crazy there are so many great options. Plus, being outside without the go-to prop options and perfect lighting makes us all have to think on our feet a little bit more. This leads to some great (and often funny) moments during these sessions. Not only are there wonderful keepsakes after the session, but there are wonderful memories as well.
