My portrait studio is located just a few minutes away in neighboring Andover, and over the years I’ve had the pleasure of photographing so many wonderful families from North Andover. Some families first find me while expecting their first baby. Others come to the studio for a milestone session, a cake smash, or family portraits and eventually return year after year as their children grow.
Living and working in the Merrimack Valley has given me the opportunity to get to know so many local families over the years. Some first visited my studio while expecting their first baby, and I’ve since photographed younger siblings, first birthdays, family portraits, and other important childhood milestones.
That long-term relationship is one of my favorite parts of being a family photographer.
Whether you’re looking for a North Andover maternity photographer, newborn photographer, baby milestone photographer, family photographer, or someone to document a first birthday or another important stage of childhood, my goal is always the same: to create photographs that feel timeless, natural, and genuinely connected to your family.
Why North Andover Families Choose Crabapple Photography
Many North Andover families choose Crabapple Photography because they want an experienced photographer close to home who offers a calm, thoughtfully guided portrait experience. My studio is just minutes away in neighboring Andover, making it easy to return for photographs as your family grows.
For families with young children, having a studio nearby can make the experience especially convenient. There is no need to travel into Boston for a newborn session, milestone portraits, or a first birthday celebration. My Andover studio provides a comfortable, controlled environment for everything from tiny newborn portraits to energetic toddler milestones.
Just as importantly, many of my North Andover families don’t stop at one session. A family may begin with maternity portraits, return for newborn photographs, and then come back for six- or nine-month milestone portraits, a first birthday, and family sessions as the children get older.
Watching those families grow over the years is one of the greatest privileges of my job.
North Andover Maternity Photography
Maternity photography is about more than documenting a growing belly. It is a chance to preserve the anticipation of a completely new chapter for your family.
One of my favorite North Andover maternity sessions included an expectant mom, dad, and an excited older brother. The darker wood backdrop paired beautifully with soft pink and deep red maternity gowns, creating portraits that felt rich, warm, and classic.
One of my favorite images from the session is a close portrait of the family gathered around mom’s belly, with everyone’s hands resting gently together while big brother formed a tiny heart shape with his own hands. These quieter details are often the photographs parents treasure most years later.

North Andover Newborn Photography
Newborn sessions are often where a family’s photography story begins. My Andover studio makes it easy for North Andover families to document those first days in a comfortable, relaxed setting.
One recent newborn session leaned soft, delicate, and light-filled. The studio was filled with creamy whites, subtle blush pink tones, and delicate floral accents that complemented this sweet baby girl perfectly. Family styling in shades of white and pale blue helped everything feel cohesive without distracting from the connection between them.
The overall feeling of the session was calm and timeless, with a combination of baby portraits and photographs of the family together.
For many North Andover parents searching for a newborn photographer, this style of session is exactly what they are drawn to: soft tones, natural posing, and an experience that feels relaxed from start to finish.

North Andover Baby Milestone Photography
The first year of a baby’s life changes incredibly quickly. Newborns become expressive babies, then sitting babies, then newly mobile little people seemingly overnight.
Baby milestone sessions give families a way to slow down and document those changes along the way.
The sitter stage is always one of my favorites to photograph. At around seven months, babies are expressive, curious, and full of personality while still holding onto so much baby softness.
One North Andover baby’s seven-month session felt especially timeless with a chunky knit sweater romper and simple neutral styling. We incorporated subtle fall touches throughout the session, including heirloom-style pumpkins that added texture and warmth without overwhelming the portraits.
Alongside the solo portraits, we also captured family photographs that documented this season as a whole rather than focusing only on the milestone itself.
These are often the sessions parents later tell me changed the most in hindsight because they hadn’t realized how quickly this stage would pass.

If you’d like to document more than one stage during your baby’s first year, my Baby’s First Year photography package makes it possible to create a collection of portraits from newborn through the first birthday.

North Andover Cake Smash & First Birthday Photography
A baby’s first birthday deserves to be celebrated, but it doesn’t have to mean choosing between playful photographs and timeless portraits.
This North Andover first birthday session brought in a completely different atmosphere with woodland-inspired details and rich natural textures. Tree stumps, pine cones, and soft earthy elements created a playful but elevated setup for this little boy’s cake smash.
Before introducing the cake, we also captured sweet portraits of him holding a teddy bear that fit perfectly within the overall feel of the session.
We finished with family portraits that balanced the more playful birthday setup with timeless images mom and dad could enjoy long after the cake smash stage had passed.
First birthday sessions are often a mix of celebration and reflection. For many parents, it is hard to believe how quickly they have gone from newborn photographs to one-year portraits.

North Andover Family & Sibling Photography
Family photography doesn’t have to mean everyone standing perfectly still and smiling at the camera.
Some of my favorite North Andover family sessions are built around movement, interaction, and the relationships between family members. Walking together, cuddling, playing, and simply giving children room to be themselves often creates photographs that feel much more representative of this particular stage of family life.
One North Andover toddler and sibling session centered around a little boy, but his older sisters joined as well. The result was a fun mix of individual portraits, sibling photographs, and genuine personality.
Some of my favorite images were not the perfectly posed moments, but the in-between expressions and reactions between siblings. The way brothers and sisters naturally interact often tells the story better than overly structured posing ever could.
I also photographed a North Andover family of four during a beautiful fall evening surrounded by golden leaves and soft light. Their wardrobe palette of navy, white, and mustard yellow photographed beautifully against the landscape.
Rather than focusing heavily on posed portraits, much of the session centered around movement and interaction: walking together, laughing with the kids, and allowing moments to unfold naturally.
Those are almost always the photographs families connect with most deeply over time.

North Andover Dance & Childhood Portraits
Family photography is at the heart of what I do, but photographing children also means being invited to document the interests and accomplishments that become important parts of their lives.
As a fun addition to my North Andover sessions, I photographed individual and group portraits for teen and preteen dancers from Center for the Performing Arts before their annual “Not So Nutcracker” performance.
The girls arrived dressed and ready for a performance they had worked toward for months, and there was a wonderful mix of confidence, nerves, and excitement throughout the portraits.
Alongside the individual dancer portraits, we also captured group images that documented the friendships and teamwork that become such a meaningful part of growing up in dance.
It felt like the perfect way to round out a collection of sessions centered around community, milestones, and connection.

Photographing North Andover Families Through Every Stage
One of the things I value most about this work is being invited back repeatedly as families grow and change.
Many of the parents featured throughout these sessions first found me while searching for a North Andover maternity photographer or newborn photographer. Years later, I am photographing toddlers, siblings, first birthdays, family portraits, and other childhood milestones that once felt far away.
Some families begin with one newborn session and eventually return with a younger sibling. Others come back for annual family portraits or milestone sessions as their children become toddlers and school-age kids.
That continuity is something I never take for granted.
There is something incredibly meaningful about documenting not just one season, but the full story over time. When I photograph a family repeatedly, the images become more than individual portraits. Together, they show how a child has changed, how siblings have grown together, and how a family has evolved through the years.
