Mr. K’s Newborn Photos :: Greater Boston Baby Photographer
Mr. K came to my studio for his Greater Boston newborn photos mini session. It’s hard to believe this newborn portraits session was actually a few years ago! He came back for his one year photo session, and that will also be up on the blog soon–make sure you keep an eye out for that one. Newborn mini sessions are something that I didn’t used to offer, and honestly wasn’t sure I ever would. The main difference between a mini session and a full session is the amount of time. While many of my milestone sessions are under or just around an hour, newborn sessions are at least double that amount of time. A typical newborn session lasts for two hours. This allows for family portraits, some outfit and set changes, as well as time for feeding and diaper changing breaks. During a mini session there just simply isn’t time for all of those things.
During a newborn mini session, the focus is solely on the newborn. There aren’t any family photos included in this session. This means that it is not always a great choice for some families. But for those who are just looking for some solo shots of their new arrival, it can be a good option. You can see another mini session here: Andover Newborn Mini Session Photographer.
Poses and Styling for Newborn Sessions
Along with being all about baby, a Greater Boston newborn mini session can also be limiting in terms of what poses are possible. While I can never actually guarantee any pose during a newborn session, there’s even less guarantee with a mini session. During a full session I have a little more wiggle room when it comes to getting baby completely asleep and settled for different poses. In a mini session I don’t always have time to lull baby into a deep enough sleep for certain poses like the froggy pose or naked poses. Another thing with mini sessions is that newborns are much more comfortable being swaddled. This means that many times during mini sessions (and some full sessions as well) the only option is for swaddled poses. The good news is I have a huge assortment of swaddles, wraps, and accessories in my Greater Boston newborn photo studio. And these wraps, swaddles, hats, and everything else are available to clients during their sessions. Whether you want something neutral and simple, or colorful and intricate, I definitely have something to match your style. I send out a questionnaire before any session with styling and posing likes. This is especially helpful before a mini session so that I can spend the entire session focusing on taking portraits. If I can be prepared ahead of time it makes it completely seamless.
