This sweet little baby came to my studio in Andover, MA for his newborn portrait mini session. And he was a DREAM! How adorable does he look all curled up? There is nothing as cute as a curled up little baby. For this session we chose to use the rustic and whimsical log bed, and I love the way the brown looks with the different shades of blue. The other set up we used is a total go-to for me: the gray fur. Gray is one of my favorite colors to use for any session. It’s timeless, classic, and truly goes with anything.

This session was pretty special, because this was my very first newborn mini session that I ever shot. I had offered seasonal mini sessions, as well as Andover MA mini maternity photo sessions. I honestly never thought that this would be something I would offer. I just didn’t think it would be possible for me to get all of the shots I needed in such a short amount of time. But, I gave it a shot just to see how it would go and it was definitely a success. His mama followed the prep tips I sent out, which meant he was asleep when he got here and stayed sleeping the entire session. And he left twenty minutes later still asleep! From then on I began offering newborn mini sessions. They definitely don’t all go as smoothly (ha!), but they are a great alternative if you are looking for a birth announcement portrait, one or two photos for your wall, or for budget reasons.

More About Newborn Mini Sessions

A newborn mini session is different form a full session in a few ways. A typical newborn photo session is about two hours long, while this is only half an hour. The other main difference is that unlike in a full session, the mini session is just about baby. This means no photos of baby with parents or siblings. We are only able to do 2-3 poses, but have various different props, furs, and wraps to make sure that we are able to get you the photos you’ve been dreaming of. As with any session, I will send a style questionnaire for you to fill out prior to your photoshoot. This way we can make sure we’re on the same page in terms of your must have photos, your color choices, and any style preferences you have.

While these mini sessions are a great option for many people, there are some limitations. For one thing, unlike a full session where we have a little more flexibility in age, for these sessions your baby must be under 21 days. This is to ensure that we are able to get those “typical” newborn poses with your sleepy, curled up baby. Also because of the limited time, I’m not able to guarantee any poses (not that there’s really ever any guarantee with new babies!). Along with the styling questionnaire, I also send an email with tips to make sure your baby is prepared for their photos. This mainly means that they’re content and asleep. However, baby is boss, and sometimes that means they aren’t asleep. And this is okay, it just means that we will have to have them swaddled throughout their session.

After Your Newborn Photo Session

Your session is done, now what? Well, you still have decisions to make. How would you like to display your new artwork? Which products work best for your photos, your style, and your home? When it comes to displaying your photos on your wall, we are here to help answer these questions. If you take a photo of the wall you wish to display your artwork on, my team and I can create a mock-up of what your walls will look like with your own photos. This can help you decide between gallery wrap canvases and framed artwork, can help you decide which sizes, and can even help you choose which photos.
