Including Older Siblings in Newborn Photos :: Andover MA Photographer

Often before a newborn session I have parents asking me if it’s okay if they bring their older child along for the session. And my answer is always yes! Now that being said, you know your child better than I do, and it might not be for every kiddo. But I love when older siblings come for newborn photos. Not only is it a great bonding moment for your children and your family. It is also a great way to make any older children feel more involved. Plus–the photos are so adorable. What a fantastic keepsake to have!

There are, of course, some challenges to photographing toddlers and newborns. But I’ve been doing this since 2009 so I have picked up some tricks over the years. I always have an assistant with me, too. This way we can divide and conquer–someone is making sure baby is safe and sound the entire time. And someone can be on toddler/big kid duty. My goal is always to make EVERYONE comfortable. Kiddos and parents alike. Which means taking over as much of the child wrangling as possible. Oftentimes during newborn photos with sibling involved, older siblings will be present for the family and sibling portion of the session and then dad, a grandparent, or other child helper will leave the studio with them so that all the focus can be 100% on baby.
