Newborn Pictures for Mr. L With A Fun Surprise :: Melrose MA Photographer

For any session I send parents a styling questionnaire. This questionnaire includes everything from who will be present during the session, to specific props and poses. This helps me to get a good idea of what to expect during the session. Plus I can pull any props or accessories that I think the parents would like to include in their session. One specific thing I always ask for newborn photos is if there is a specific color scheme/theme for the nursery. For one thing, some parents hang newborn artwork in their child’s nursery so I like to give them options that will work in that room. But also it’s a good way to gauge what styles parents like. For Mr. L’s nursery he has a specific theme and it made for such a fun twist to these Melrose newborn pictures. That theme? Dinosaurs!

Digital Composites vs Props for Newborn Photos

For this session I incorporated Mr. L’s nursery theme of dinosaurs in a digital composite portrait. What’s a digital composite you ask? It is a background or image that I am able to digitally add your baby to in post production. I take a photo of your little one without too many extra accessories and from an angle that makes sense for the chosen composite. Then, I am able to add it into the digital artwork to give you a beautiful portrait. I actually did a number of these when Covid was first happening using photos taken at home by parents.

This is such a fun way to add a fun and colorful addition to your newborn pictures. Especially if you’re looking for a theme that is harder to accomplish using props and accessories.
