Strawberry First Birthday Cake Smash Celebration :: Chelmsford MA Photographer
This little lady came to my studio from nearby Chelmsford MA to celebrate her first birthday. This session was a little extra special since her parents are good friends of mine! I had photographed Miss A a few times before this (and have since photographed her baby sister Miss Z as well). You can see her 7 month photos here and her super sentimental newborn photos here. But it’s always good to have friends in my studio. For this first birthday celebration, mama chose to go with a strawberry themed cake smash photos. And it sure was BERRY sweet! As anyone who has been reading my blog for a while can tell you, I love a cake smash theme. And over the years I have had so many great themes in the studio. From animals to characters, to color palettes and even foods. There’s no wrong way to celebrate a first birthday, that’s for sure.

Styling for One Year Portraits
Before the fun of the cake smash starts, I make sure to get some portraits of the birthday girl (or boy). In this case that meant Miss A in a pretty white dress in front of a floral backdrop with a pink fur. And then the same outfit in front of the rustic dark wood background. I love how such a simple change of background can create such a huge difference in the vibe of the portraits. This is a great way to add variety to a session. We also had time to grab a more stylized first birthday photo of Miss A in a tutu and pearls, balloons and a ONE bunting as the background. Go big or go home! Once all of those portraits were taken, it was time to bring out the cake, the strawberries and adorable pink strawberry crates, and get to the smash!
