Boston Maternity Photos :: Mom-to-be E
These soon-to-be parents came to my studio from Boston for their maternity photo session. I have since met and photographed their sweet baby girl for her newborn portraits. Maternity sessions are special, and getting to “meet” these little ones while they’re in mommy’s tummy and then getting to meet them for real when they’re born is extra special.
Pregnancy is such an exciting and amazing time for parents. And it should absolutely be celebrated and captured. I’ve heard people question whether or not maternity photos are worth it and I always say yes! Absolutely they are. Why? Because portraits like these aren’t just for the parents to be, and they’re not even just for their baby. They’re for the generations to come. These portraits are keepsakes to have forever. As someone who has been pregnant, I know that it’s not always a fun or glamorous time. But I love getting to look back at my pregnancy through photos. And my daughters love being able to see what I looked like with them in my belly!

How to Style a Maternity Session
One of the reasons this session is so stunning is because of the stark contrast between the colorful shots and the more monochromatic ones. Mom and dad wanted vibrant colors, and this gorgeous dress that mama is wearing is perfect. The bright blues and oranges look amazing on her, and they photograph beautifully. Sometimes I love the simple, neutral look. But sessions like this Boston maternity photo session remind me how gorgeous the more vibrant photos can be. If you love color, embrace that love! Don’t shy away from color for your photo session.
This session truly does have a little bit of everything. Not only does it have the vibrant colors that mom and dad wanted, but it also has a ton of drama and movement. The way that they dress looks flying behind her is something I can never get enough of. The silhouette technique is one that I love, and is definitely something that is requested by a lot of expecting mothers. And, of course, a close up of that beautiful belly. After all, that belly is the reason we’re all here!
