Styling Inspiration for Preppy Family Spring Portraits :: Lynnfield, MA Photographer
If you’re looking for styling inspiration for outdoor spring family portraits with a preppy twist, look no further! I met up with this Lynnfield MA family for some family fun spring portraits back in 2021. And I still adore everything about this session. Especially the styling! Big brother Mr. H was 9, and little brother Mr. K was 4 during these photos. These ages meant lots of energy, which makes an outdoor session perfect. One of the great things about being outside is that kiddos have the space to move their bodies and burn off some energy. This is super helpful for many kids and toddlers. Plus the backdrop is stunning, another plus to outdoor family portraits! These portraits were taken on a sunny evening in May, a few hours before sunset. Which meant that the sun was shining brightly, and I love the way it looks streaming through the trees!

Styling Ideas for Outdoor Family Pictures
But I promised we’d talk about the styling, since this session is great inspiration for preppy spring family photos. Mom’s pink dress matched big brother’s shorts perfectly. And his floral tie is pure perfection. Little brother was in similar shorts, this time in a light blue seersucker. Seersucker is such a classic choice for spring and summer in New England. Instead of a tie like big bro, Mr. K had plaid suspenders and matching hat. I love that the boys are each in their own distinct outfit but they coordinate perfectly. Dad kept it simple with a white button down and jeans.
Something extra fun about this session? Mom was expecting! While they weren’t specifically maternity photos, that did add a little extra special touch. This was before their gender reveal but mom did let me know after this session that it’s a girl! Congratulations to the whole family!
