Top 10 Reasons to Consider Family Portraits

Family portraits are some of our favorite sessions here at Crabapple Photography in Andover MA. Whether that means in-studio portrait sessions, or family portraits taken outdoors in one of our local parks or on the beach. Keep scrolling to read our top 10 reasons you should consider family portraits, and why we think they’re the right choice for every family.

1. Mom can make sure she’s in the photo, not behind the camera

I can’t tell you how many times I have had a mom tell me that my portraits are the first time she has gotten her photo taken since her wedding. And as a mom, I can completely relate. So often we are the ones snapping the photos. Whether they’re posed photos of our kids or candid snapshots of the kids playing together or with their father. Usually, unless it’s a selfie (and let’s be real, selfies aren’t the same!) we don’t get to be in the photo. With these professional family portraits, you will definitely get to be in the photo!

2. As kids get older and more independent it’s harder to get everyone together

This one might be obvious for teens and older. But even younger children these days have so many activities, sports, dancing, school, and play-dates. Unless there is specific time set aside for family time, it might not happen. Whether you have little kids, or bigger ones, don’t put off getting family portraits taken.

3. It’s a great way to bond as a family

My goal is to make these family portraits fun. But the reality is, for some families the bonding might just be because they hate the idea of family portraits. And that’s okay, as long as you’re bonding! In all seriousness though, these sessions are fun and easy. Spending a morning or an afternoon together as a family is bound to be a good bonding experience.

4. We take care of everything so that you don’t have to stress

One of the benefits of hiring a professional photographer is that you get to take advantage of my years of experience. Over the years I have learned all sorts of tips and tricks to make any session run as smoothly as possible. I also have props, clothing, and accessories for clients to use during their sessions. Every aspect of the session, from pre-planning to ordering prints and products, my team and I are with you to help.

5. Better chance of having a photo where everyone is looking and smiling

Depending on if your session is a full session or a mini session, you will have at least 10-15 and as many as 30+ photos. This definitely gives you a very great chance of having a photo of everyone looking and smiling. Plus, you have me and my assistant acting crazy behind the camera to get everyone laughing.

6. Your kids are only this age for so long

Whether your kids are little or big, this season of life is such a short one. Before you know it, your kids will be older and life will continue to change. And every stage of childhood (and beyond) is so special and unique in its own way.

7. The perfect way to celebrate a milestone/age/event

If one of your kids (or yourself) are celebrating a big birthday, family portraits can be a fun way to celebrate. I have had families use portrait sessions as a way to celebrate anniversaries, graduations, birthdays, and special accomplishments. No matter what the reason, family portraits are a fun way to celebrate a moment and to have beautiful portraits as a keepsake.

8. They make great gifts

Using family portraits, you can have gifts for everyone in the family! And depending on how much your family loves you, you can even get away with giving these portraits as gifts multiple times. That could mean as gift art, or even as a custom album. Albums are always a hit with grandparents especially!

9. Your family is special and all yours, show them off!

Post them on social media and brag about how great they are! Hang the portraits on the wall so that everyone who comes to visit can see just how amazing your special and unique family is.

10. Because you and your kids will never look back and say “wow, I wish we had never taken those photos”

…but you will say “wow, I wish we had taken more”. The truth is, these portraits aren’t just about you and your family now. But they’re keepsakes that your children can have as they grow up and have families of their own. These photos can be passed down from generation to generation.
