Mr. A’s First Birthday and Cake Smash Photos :: Boston MA Photographer

This first birthday and cake smash photo session is special in so many ways. For one thing, the theme for the cake smash (The Little Prince) was one of my favorites. Plus the family portraits were extra special since Mr. A’s aunt and uncle came along for the fun. And lastly, there was a very interesting, important, and extremely cool tradition. It was so much fun, and I felt honored to photograph Mr. A in his traditional clothing. The red tiger outfit was stunning, and Mr. A looked cute as can be in it. And getting to witness his picking tradition was so wonderful. The parents put out an array of objects, each signifying personality traits or potential future professions. Then baby gets to pick one of the objects. I’ve photographed similar events a few times before this session and every single time I think it is so cool.
This tradition is such an amazing way to celebrate the first birthday milestone, and one that I wish we had in every culture. Getting to learn about different cultures is an unexpected, but amazing, aspect of my job. All The Cake Smash Details

When it comes to cake smash sessions, there are a few different aspects to consider. For one thing, do you want a theme? If so, I work with parents to choose or create the set design, the backdrop, and all of the props to reflect the theme. I can help parents find the best clothing or outfit options to match the feel of the cake smash if they need help. And the final puzzle piece for a cake smash is, of course, the cake. I have a trusted baker that I work with to coordinate your vision, and the scheduling, so that your cake is in the studio and ready before your session begins.
The other option is that parents bring the cake. Whether it’s homemade, or made by a baker of the client’s choosing. In this case, mom made the cake for Mr. A’s The Little Prince cake smash. This is a great option for parents who enjoy baking, children with allergies, or someone who has a baker they are familiar with and love.
For this cake smash, the set details worked perfectly for The Little Prince, or Le Petit Prince. The gold, white, clear, and star balloons taped onto a light blue seamless paper created the perfect backdrop. A tiny vintage plane, some luggage, and a few globes added to the feel. And of course, Mr. A in his little yellow crown. Mom also brought along some really gorgeous Le Petit Prince cookies that we included in the cake smash set up. All of these little details combine for the perfect The Little Prince themed cake smash!
