What To Wear For Your Outdoor Spring Photos :: Andover Photographer
Almost every year I offer outdoor mini sessions during the later summer and fall. And recently I have begun offering outdoor mini sessions during the spring as well. It really has given me such an appreciation for spring in New England! It can be a bit tricky (as the weather lately has been reminding us!) but for the most part it is beautiful. Flowers and trees in full bloom. Blue skies. Bright sun. I love it all! This year I am offering Mommy and Me mini sessions during the spring, which gives me the perfect excuse to look at pretty spring clothing for everyone! If you have been wondering what to wear for your outdoor spring photos, I have you covered!
Neutral Colors For your Outdoor Spring Pictures
Spring in New England is full of color. Green from the trees, blue in the sky, pink and yellow flowers all around. Which can make neutrals a perfect choice for outdoor spring portraits. And choosing neutrals still means plenty of options, whether you prefer whites, grays, tans, or even navy blue. All of these are great neutral options that can absolutely still pop against the different colors of nature around you. And there are plenty of ways to make neutrals look just as interesting as more colorful clothing.
Both of these dresses for mama are from Gap. I love both white and tan options. You can get the Linen Blend Gingham one here. And the Striped Patchwork Midi (also comes in a really pretty blue!). For your little lady, I am especially loving this Striped Cold Shoulder dress from Janie and Jack. This Gap toddler girls Tank Top and Short Set is another great choice if you’re wondering what to wear for your outdoor spring photos.
For boys I am loving both of these options. The Shark Motif Denim shirt from Gap is a perfect blend of timeless and fun. And this vintage inspired Baseball Jacket is so cute, and will be helpful when it’s not quite warm enough for just a tee shirt.
Light Colors to Wear for Photos
I don’t know about you, but when I think spring I think pastels. Pale pinks and yellows, powdery blues and mint greens. And these colors are all the perfect choice for outdoor spring photos. Not only will they look beautiful with the colors that exist in nature. But they’re also just so classic and pretty! A great option is to find something with a soft or subtle print. I love this mama’s white and pink floral dress. This is the perfect kind of print for these outdoor photos. Keep in mind that when the prints are too busy it can be a little too much for outdoor photos since they can compete with all the colors and textures around you.
I am really loving light purple and yellow for outdoor spring photos this year! On the left is a Three Piece Set from H&M that comes in another color option, too. In the middle is an adorable retro style Romper from Janie and Jack. And on the right is another light purple three piece set from H&M, this one in an Eyelet Style with Headband. This one comes in numerous color options as well!
There are a ton of pastel options for little girls, and not quite as many for boys. But I absolutely love a little boy in pastels! This Striped Oxford Shirt from Gap is so cute and would go with so many different options for family coordination. And this Shawl Collar Sweater from Janie and Jack is one of my absolute favorites from this whole post!
Light blue and white are the perfect combination to wear for your outdoor spring photos. For kiddos and for mama! Not only is it classic and pretty. But it’s also so easy to coordinate! For little girls I found this beautiful Striped White and Blue dress from Gap. And on the right is a Light Blue Romper option, from H&M. And in the middle is the sweetest little Smocked Romper from Janie and Jack. It’s technically for baby boys but would definitely work for little girls too!
For mama I found two beautiful options. The first is a White and Blue Floral Dress from H&M. And second is a shirt option, a Blue and White Striped top from Old Navy that would work perfectly with white pants, khakis, or even jeans!
Bright Colors to Wear for Pictures
I know spring usually means pastels. But let me just say I love bright colors for spring as well! I love bright coral, teal, and even brighter shades of blue and yellow. All of these look beautiful when paired with the greenery of spring. Another great option is pairing these brighter colors with white. I love the photo below of mama in bright coral and daughter in white. The white softens the brighter color and gives the whole thing a very nice spring turning into summer vibe.
This Printed Button Down for boys from H&M is colorful and quirky, without being too over the top. I think it would be easy to coordinate with siblings by pulling out some of the colors from the trees on the shirt for sure. And on the right we have a Striped Polo from Janie and Jack that is just bright enough without being overwhelming!
When it comes to bright colors for Mama, I wanted to give options. On the left is a beautiful Floral Puff Sleeve Top from Boden that would look great with jeans and would coordinate well with kiddos in green, blue, pink or yellow. On the left is another bright top from Boden, this time a pretty Bright Pink Tulle Top. This could either match the kiddos or be a stand out piece. And in the middle is a dress option from Gap. This Purple Crinkle Gauze Mini Dress is pretty, practical, and definitely can be worn again and again.
I went a little crazy finding colorful options for girls–but I wanted to give options! On the left is a great example of a busy print that won’t overwhelm. This would be a great option for what I call a “Hero Outfit” which is when one person in the family is in a bright color of print and everyone else coordinates to that outfit. This Floral Tiered Dress from Gap is a great choice. The Janie and Jack Floral Smocked Sundress is another example of a busy print, but this time the white background softens the colors. For a top option to pair with jeans or leggings, this Embroidered Flower Shirt from Boden is so pretty and colorful. And last but not least, for parents who don’t want a print. This bright yellow Pom Jersey Romper from Boden is so cute and playful–perfect for outdoor spring photos!
