Mr. V’s Magical Harry Potter Inspired Cake Smash
Who is ready to see a truly magical cake smash session?! This is one that I am so excited to share because I know there will be a lot of people who love it. Before we broke out the props and cake, I took some family portraits and some non-themed portraits of Mr. V. I know that the cake smash is the cherry on top of these one year photo sessions. But often these are full sessions that don’t just include the cake smash. Of course, parents are welcome to have just a cake smash that doesn’t include the family pictures and the non-smash photos. But for sessions like Mr. V’s 1 year portraits, we get a little bit of everything. But once those photos were taken it was all about his Harry Potter Cake Smash!

Using a Theme in Your Cake Smash Photo Session
If you’ve spent much time on my blog or social media then you know that I love a good themed cake smash photo session. Whether that theme is based on a food, an animal, or a favorite character, I love it. And over the years I have photographed cake smash sessions with every theme imaginable. Not only is it so much fun from a creative standpoint to get to create these backdrops and find the props. But it is also so much fun to see parents get excited when they see the cake smash set! Of course it’s fun to see the babies excited, too.
But the truth is at one year old they don’t really get what’s going on. A lot of the time they do get pretty jazzed about some of the props or balloons which is definitely fun. But more often than not these sets and themes are for parents–and that is absolutely okay!
In this case, it was all about Harry Potter. And I have to admit something, I’ve never been a huge Harry Potter fan. I saw the movies, but never read the books. But my daughters have recently gotten into the books AND the movies and watching the two of them get so into the stories and characters is so fun for me as a parent. So while I might have missed that excitement when I was younger, I am totally getting it now. I hope I get to do another Harry Potter themed session one day!
