Mr. C’s One Year and Cake Smash Photos near Westford MA
This smiley little dude came to my studio from nearby Westford to celebrate his first birthday with some cake smash photos! He brought along mom, dad, and big sis. I had previously photographed him for his newborn photos (plus when he was inside mama’s belly for her maternity portraits!). And over the years I have seen the family a few more times for mommy and me mini sessions, as well as holiday photos. I love getting to watch these little ones grow up. I especially love watching their bond as siblings grow.
For these photos, like most sessions, we started off with some great family photos. This family is so sweet, and they are also so photogenic! Every single family member has a gorgeous smile. After mom and dad were done with their part, I focused on the siblings. And then, it was all about the birthday boy. I am so obsessed with both of his little outfits. There is nothing like a baby in suspenders! And once I had captured some portraits of Mr. C, it was time for the smash! Cake smash sessions are always some of the most fun we have here in the studio. This Westford cake smash photo session did not disappoint.

Cakes, Set Design, and More
When it comes to first birthday photos like this Westford session, some parents want to focus on family photos. Others want to make sure they get some great solo shots of baby. And for others, it is all about that cake! And no matter what your preference is, my team and I are here to make it work. These sessions are different from many other milestone sessions in that it is very clearly broken into two different phases. There’s the portrait portion of the session where it is all about posing and smiling for the camera. And then, there’s cake! When it comes to the actual smash portion of the session, my assistants and I will do everything we can to get your little one to look at the camera. But the reality is, sometimes the cake is just more fun to look at or play with. And honestly, who can blame them. This can sometimes mean the cake smash takes on a more candid look than the rest of the photos. Which just means we get the best of both worlds!
Prior to any session I send out a questionnaire with different questions about styling, color schemes, and props. Cake smash sessions get one extra question: about that cake. I work with a baker who makes adorable (and yummy) cakes, so I am happy to be the go-between for you and the baker when it comes to choosing a cake. But you always have the option to bring your own cake. Whether you bake it yourself, or have your own baker to purchase it from. This mama decided to bring her own. But as you can see, Mr. C still got right in there and smashed that cake!
