Mr. O’s First Birthday and Cake Smash Photos near Medford MA
Mr. O and his parents came to my studio from nearby Medford MA for his first birthday and cake smash photos. I first met him for his newborn portraits. And then I just recently had the whole family back in my studio to help welcome his new baby sister into the family. Every time a family trusts me enough to capture numerous milestones, and for numerous children, I am so thankful! Getting to see Mr. O and family again for these first year and cake smash photos was definitely extra special since I had seen him as a teeny tiny newborn.
When we talked ahead of the session about color and styling choices, mom mentioned that she had already chosen outfits for the family portraits. She went with navy blue with pink/coral accents. I absolutely love this color scheme. Classic, timeless, and a little preppy. You definitely cannot go wrong with that. It also has a definite summertime feel to it (Cape Cod in the summer, anyone?). Cake Smash Behind The Scenes Info
Before any session I send parents a questionnaire. This helps me to make sure that parents and I are on the same page when it comes to their preferences. It’s helpful for me to know what photos are priorities, what props to have easily accessible, and how many people are coming along. I also send out informational emails before any session. The information changes depending on the milestone. For first year and cake smash photos like this Medford session, some of the things I include are about the structure of the session and some behind the scene tricks. And since there’s a pretty important prop that’s unique to these sessions (the cake, of course!), I send along some info about the cake as well. I have a baker that I work with closely, so I’m always more than happy to take care of the cake. But some parents prefer to make or buy their own, and that’s okay as well.
