Boston Newborn Photos :: Baby L

Miss L and her family came to my studio from Boston for her newborn portraits. She brought along her big brother, H, who I had also photographed when he was a newborn. Click here to see his newborn photos. I’m always excited when parents bring their second (or more!) kids to me to photograph. It’s a humbling experience to be trusted to capture the important milestones for a family.

Both Mom and Dad are a pretty big deal on social media–something that impresses me wildly since I know first hand it is not always easy to keep up with! Dad is famous SnapChatter/influencer @mplatco. Find him on Instagram and SnapChat. Mom is @lplatco and is just getting started as an influencer. She also runs a blog. Needless to say, I’m super impressed with them! Two adorable kids and success on social media? Rockstars!

Newborn Portrait Styling

Pink and white were the main color choices for this newborn session. When it comes to these colors, there are so many different options. Pink and white are both such versatile colors, and the accessories can make all the difference. For the all white shot, where Miss L is wearing a white bonnet, on top of a white swaddle, with two different white furs underneath her, the main source of contrast was with the different textures. I love playing with texture as a way to build contrast and visual interest. This is a great example of how to utilize textures in a monochromatic shot.

I was also able to use the color pink in a few different ways. The pink in her floral headband contrast with the knit of the pink blanket. And later in the gallery the pink bucket makes a great pop of color with the dark brown wood and the chunky white knit blanket. And even further down this page, the light pink blanket next to the white uses just the tiniest bit of contrast, and all of the light colors make her dark hair and gold headband pop even more.

Mom, Dad and big brother are all in darker shades throughout the session. Having Miss L in white during these photos is a great way to make her pop in the group shots.
