Miss E’s Outdoor Cake Smash by a Massachusetts Baby Photographer
Being a baby photographer in Massachusetts (well, New England really), means I get to photograph families in the beautiful fall foliage. For this I feel very lucky! Today I am featuring a special family I photographed a few times during their baby E’s first year. Her Mama absolutely loves the fall so we took full advantage of baby girl’s birthday season and opted for an outdoor cake smash. But first we were sure to grab family portraits in the leaves! I love the little plaid shirt this newly one year old is wearing. It is super versatile especially when paired with a jacket as her Mama did here.
One year olds aren’t known for their willingness to sit still. This is totally expected and I even look forward to it! During this baby session I was able to click my shutter fast enough to get a few portraits of the baby while sitting in the tiny little chair in the leaves. Then, she wanted to stand. And who can blame her? She’s learning a new skill and I’m able to document it to remember this special time in her life.

Before the big cake smash we hit the beach for a few more family photos. The leaves were changing color and it was absolutely gorgeous scenery. Finally, drum roll please … the cake smash! I work with a wonderful and creative baker. For this outdoor fall cake smash she created a beautifully simple cream cake with a sunflower on top. Sunflowers are the signal of the start of fall for me, so it was very fitting. Be sure to scroll all the way down to check out baby E “smashing” her cake. Her outfit is unbelievable! Those tights. Tights might be my new favorite accessory. Here she is getting a little help from Mom and Dad. As it turns out, babies aren’t born loving cake!
