Winchester Outdoor Fall Family Photography

I met up with this sweet family from Winchester MA for their outdoor fall family photos last fall. Fall is not only one of my favorite times of year, but it’s also one of my busiest times! It’s the perfect time of year for family portraits, and if you don’t believe me, just keep scrolling. I love summer, but these photos definitely have me wanting fall. This sweet baby girl was so content snuggling with her mom and dad. But as soon as I broke out my secret weapon (the bubble machine) she was running around and giving me huge smiles. Toddlers are both hilarious and adorable.

Styling for this Fall Family Session

For this session, the family chose one of my favorite colors: gray! Gray is such a fantastic neutral color, and it works in literally any season. For fall, I love the way that mom’s light gray sweater really pops against the background. Styling for an outdoor session can be much different than styling for a session in the studio. In the studio, the backdrop is a neutral wooden background. But outside, the backdrop can be full of different colors. In this case, there’s a lot of greens and browns.

Another styling choice that I absolutely love during the fall is knit sweaters. When I think fall, comfy sweaters are one of the first things I think of. The chunky knit texture of baby girl’s sweater photographs beautifully and creates just the right amount of visual interest next to mom’s softer knit and dad’s blazer. This is a great example of how a more monochromatic style can still have contrast and interest.
