Boston Cake Smash Photographer :: 1 Year Old J
Mr. J and his parents came to the studio from Boston to celebrate his first birthday! This celebration had bubbles, balloons, and most importantly-birthday cake! Not to mention quite a few giggles from the birthday boy! I like to start out most sessions with a few family shots (if that’s what the parents want) to help the little ones get comfortable. And then we went straight into the solo shots! This knit onesie is one of the cutest things I have ever seen. Seriously, does it come in my size??
Mr. J’s blue overalls are pretty adorable as well. Especially when he’s laughing and playing with bubbles. Bubbles are almost always a hit with the littles, and is one of my many secret weapons. Once the bubble machine comes out, the smiles almost never stop!
As great as the portraits are, the real star of the show for this milestone is the cake smash. It’s always hilarious to see how these little ones deal with the cake. Mr. J got his little toes into the frosting, and of course had a bite or two. It’s your cake, Mr. J, you can smash it if you want to!
Styling A Cake Smash
When it comes to choosing a theme for a cake smash, there are so many choices! Sometimes parents choose to incorporate a theme, whether it’s inspired by a favorite book, toy, animal, or the season. For Mr. J’s cake smash, it was all about the color blue! Different shades of blue balloons paired great with his ombre blue birthday cake. This is a great way to keep the cake smash simple and clean (at least color-wise! Clean usually isn’t a word used to describe cake smashes -ha!) Plus how cute does little man look in his khakis? Who knew khakis paired perfectly with blue frosting?!
Before we get fun and messy for the cake smash, we took some portraits of Mr. J with his parents, and some of him by himself. First birthdays are exciting, and it’s important to capture it! The blue and cream theme carried into the pre-cake portraits, too. You can never go wrong with classic colors!
