The H Family’s Beach Family Photos :: Gloucester Photographer

I met up with the H family for their beach family photos in Gloucester. This family is so sweet and I have photographed them a number of times before this session and again a number of times since. It is always such a treat to be able to meet wonderful families like this one. And it’s extra special to get the chance to watch their kiddos grow!

And now as I’m writing this in the middle of winter I am 100% dreaming about the beach. There really is something extra special about beach family photos!

Styling for Outdoor Portraits

So you’ve chosen your time of year for family photos. And you know you want them outdoors. Now the big question is: what are we going to wear?! As a mom myself I know how daunting it can be to try and get everyone dressed and ready for a normal day. And to make them presentable enough for photos can seem impossible! But I am here to tell you to take a deep breath, and let me help you out. I love this session as an example of how to dress for outdoor beach family photos. It is a great example of how sometimes less is more and simplicity is always a great idea.

Whether you’re having your family portraits taken on the beach, or in a beautiful park, keeping the color scheme neutral and classic is always a great choice. White in particular is great because no matter what the colors are in the background of your photos, the white will pop. Navy blue is another timeless choice. And especially in a beach setting the navy blue and white color palette is so classic New England preppy that you can’t go wrong no matter what you’re wearing.
