Miss V’s Newborn Portraits near Cambridge MA
Miss V and her parents came to my studio from Cambridge MA for her newborn portraits. I had previously “met” her when she was still inside her mama’s belly for mom’s maternity photos. There is something extra special about getting to see these teeny tiny ones when I photographed mama’s pregnancy photos. Maybe it’s because I’ve already formed a bond with the parents and seen the love and excitement they shared before meeting their little one. Getting to capture that love in these keepsake newborn portraits is something I am so grateful for.
Being a Cambridge area newborn photographer is, if I do say so myself, the absolute best job in the world. Getting to meet wonderful parents, snuggle sweet babies, and give families something they will treasure for years. That being said, there is a lot more that goes into my job than just holding babies! You can check out one of our blog posts that explains more about what happens behind the scenes of a newborn session. There are tricks I’ve developed over my years photographing newborns since 2009 that many people wouldn’t even think about. Plus, there are so many safety precautions I always take. Before Your Newborn Session
I’m sure when you think about a newborn session like these Cambridge newborn portraits, you would assume you just show up and smile for the camera. And while I do my very best to make sure everything is as easy and stress-free as possible for new parents, there is a little more. For one thing, there is the planning. Prior to any session I send out a super quick and easy questionnaire for parents to fill out. This includes all the basics, starting with who will be attending the session. The baby is an obvious one, but then there’s parents, possible siblings, and even some extended family.
I also make sure to find out what are your absolute must haves for portraits. For some parents, it’s all about baby. For others, family portraits are the number one goal. If I know this ahead of time then I can make sure I fit everything in without having to go over the typical hour and a half or two hours. I also ask about colors, props, and accessories so I can make sure I pull the best props ahead of time. That being said, if you arrive to your Cambridge area newborn portrait session and you’re not sure what you want, that’s okay too! I am more than happy to help you decide.

For example with this Cambridge newborn portrait session, mom had specifically mentioned that she loved the photos of baby holding parents fingers, or in their hands snuggling. These are such great poses, and I’m glad mom had mentioned them in her questionnaire so that I was able to capture them for her. Not every pose is always possible during a session, because unfortunately newborns don’t always cooperate! But if you let me know of a specific pose or photo you love, I will try to get that photograph for you.
After Your Session
And after your session, it’s time to think about prints and products. I’ll usually start talking to parents during the session. This way if they know they absolutely want a family portrait for above the couch, I can make sure I take one that will match their home decor. There are many options when it comes to prints and products. I offer everything from wallet sized prints to canvases to albums and beyond. And I am more than happy to help parents every step of the way to figure out what prints and products work best for them, whether it’s newborn portraits, family photos, or anything in between.
