Lowell MA Newborn Portraits :: Miss G

Miss G and her family came to my studio from nearby Lowell MA for her newborn portraits. It was my first time meeting Miss G, but I actually went to high school in Chelmsford with her dad’s sister! Fun fact: I was a cheerleader (would you have guessed?!) and so was she. Go Lions! It’s always fun getting to photograph the babies of people I knew once upon a time.

We started out this session with family portraits, and some photos of each parent holding Miss G. I love the shot of mama laying on the fur and cuddling her little girl. Styling Choices for these Lowell MA Newborn Portraits

For Miss G’s newborn photos it was all about pinks and purples! I love the way that the grayish purple wrap looks against the dusty pink in this first photo down below. Oftentimes parents worry that colors will be too bright or overwhelming in their newborn portraits. And if bright colors are what you want, we can definitely accomplish that. But these photos really show how even colors like pink and purple can look soft and gentle.

Another thing that these photos really showcase is how a monochromatic set up can still be full of contrast. Down below we have a pink-on-pink set up where Miss G is wrapped in a light pink swaddle and laying on a darker pink blanket. The pop of white under her swaddle, the dark backdrop, and the addition of her headband add just the right amount of contrast and visual interest to the photo. There are also two different all-purple sets. In both of these, the different shades of purple as well as the different texture have the same effect. I love using chunky knits and furs for for this purpose.
