Fall Family Outdoor Pictures near Andover MA

I met up with this family from Andover for their fall family photos last year, and I still can’t get over how great this session was. So often I’m photographing babies and toddlers. And I truly love that. But when I get the chance to photograph older kids it’s always a treat for me. These two were no exception. They were sweet and fun, and I loved being able to capture their adorable bond. I know that not only will mom and dad treasure these photos, but these two kids will, too.

Fall is the perfect time of year for outdoor photos in New England. For one thing, the backdrop is beautiful. The sun shining through the trees behind this sweet family is stunning. Plus the colors are warm and cozy. Another great thing about getting family portraits taken in the fall is that the timing is great for holiday cards. There’s still plenty of time to get cards printed and sent before the holidays.

Styling Inspiration for Fall Family Pictures

Deep green is a popular color for fall family portraits, and if you need to be convinced why, just keep scrolling. The color palette of navy and emerald is a perfect one. Honestly, navy is always a perfect choice. It goes with just about everything, is easy to find, and it’s a classic that works with any season. Add in the beautiful emerald green and pops of white and gray and this session is styled flawlessly. I love that little lady’s plaid dress has the colors of dad’s shirt and big brother’s shirt. This is what we call a “hero” outfit. Not only does it bring in the colors of their shirts, but the print draws your eye and adds visual interest.

Another thing I love about the styling in this session is mom’s light gray sweater. Sweaters are always perfect in the fall. They add a coziness, and the texture photographs beautifully. But in this case I also love how the light gray pops against the browns and greens of the backdrop.
