Family and Baby Photos near Lowell MA

Meet little Kian! Although the threat of rain almost canceled the shoot, it held off for us and I got the chance to photograph him, and his mom + dad this past Father’s Day.  We trekked on over to Fort Hill Park (in Lowell, MA) for the family photos.   Kian was in charge and showed us around the park, ultimately deciding where the shoots would be taken!  He would run away, sit and smile at the camera for a few shots, get bored with me and run to a new location.  It was pretty perfect.  Kian is an adorable little guy and so well behaved.  Keep scrolling to see more photos from the day.

Styling for Outdoor Portraits

When it comes to Lowell area outdoor photos, whether it’s family photos or baby portraits, it’s important to think about clothing. For one thing, comfort is key. Whether it’s a crisp fall day or during the heat (and humidity) of a New England summer, it’s important to check the weather before your session. Layers are always a great idea since they are easy to take on and off for photos. And especially for little ones, it’s better to have clothing that they are comfortable with. If the clothes are too warm, or too tight, or too itchy they will be unhappy. And unhappiness can definitely show in the photos! When in doubt, pick something classic and timeless that they have in their closet. If they already wear it, they’re more likely to be comfortable in it during photos!

And when it comes to styling, it’s important to think about what the backdrop of your photos will be. Styling for the green background of summer is different than styling for the colors of fall. Either way, classic neutrals are never a bad idea. This family had the right idea with the navy blue and white color scheme. It pops against the green behind them, while also being timeless. And I love that little man’s shirt combines mom’s white top and dad’s navy blue. This is the perfect way to incorporate a print.
