Family, Newborn, and Sister Photos for Miss A :: Medford MA Photographer
There is so much to celebrate when a new baby is born. The new arrival, of course. But also that the family has grown. Which is why including family and sibling photos during a newborn session is something I always offer. Some parents prefer to keep the session mostly about the new baby. But others, like this Medford MA family, prefer to keep the main goal of the session on family portraits. In this case, Miss A had a 6 year old big sister, Miss P. For this family, the order of importance was family portraits, and then sister photos, and then newborn portraits. Every family, and every session, is different. Which is why I always make sure to ask clients ahead of time what their priorities are. I never want to assume!
While the priority was sibling and family, that doesn’t mean we didn’t get any solo photos of Miss A. I love the soft pink and purple color palette they went with. And that adorable pink lace romper with the giant bow was perfect for the tushee in the air photos on the vintage bed. Sweet, soft, vintage vibes all around.
Including Siblings in Infant Portraits
One of the greatest things about having an older sibling with a bit of an age gap is the amount of poses and photos that aren’t always feasible with a toddler older sibling. Miss P was such a sweet big sister, and she really did rock her portion of the photos. She gave her baby sister kisses and hugs. Cuddled and held her. And gave me fantastic smiles the entire time. I loved getting to photograph these sisters for Miss A’s newborn photos.
One of my absolute favorite poses for older siblings is the one below of Miss P sitting, knees bent, with Miss A cradled on her lap. This is one that is really only possible with an older child. So every time I have an older sibling who is old enough and big enough to accomplish it, I try my hardest to make it work. I love how sweet it looks. And I also think that having the older sibling getting to hold their new baby brother or sister goes a long way to growing the excitement of their new buddy.
