1st and 3rd Birthday Photos for Girls :: Quincy MA Photographer

This birthday session was super fun. Because technically it was a first birthday and cake smash portrait session for Miss A. But her big sister was also celebrating her third birthday at the time. So I had a separate little 3rd birthday set up and took some solo portraits of big sis. It went from just cake smash photos, to a 1st and 3rd birthday photos for these two girls. I usually start off any cake smash portrait session with family photos, including sibling photos if there are siblings involved. Then it transitions into solo photos of the baby before the cake comes out. This can help the baby get comfortable in the studio, and with myself and my assistant. Plus that way the cake portion is at the very end–and any messiness that happens.

Styling Birthday and Cake Smash Photos

For Miss A’s portrait session there were a few different outfit changes. Miss A and big sis had matching super adorable pink dresses for the family and sibling portion of the session. And then when it came to the birthday photos for each girl, they changed into fancy dresses–white for big sis and a deep magenta for Miss A. For the 3 year set, it included a giant wooden three with some faux flowers. This set was super adorable while also being relatively simple. For the solo (and non cake) portraits of Miss A, her deep magenta dress went perfectly with some more autumnal, jewel toned flowers.

And then, it was cake time! For Miss A’s cake smash she wore a very adorable pink one piece with gold “one” on the front. The pink and gold color scheme was continued in the set with pink and purple balloons and beautiful golden butterflies. I adore how simple this cake smash set design is while still being elegant and beautiful.
