Miss S’s Sweet First Bee-Day Cake Smash Photos :: Groton MA
Miss S’s first birthday was absolutely sweet as can be. Why? Because her cake smash photos were bumble bee themed! I first had Miss S in my studio a few months prior to this for her 7 month sitter session. I loved meeting and photographing this family, and was super happy to have them back in my studio. We started off the session with some family photos. Miss S has a super awesome big bro, so we made sure to get plenty of sibling photos as well. I love how sweet those photos came out! I grabbed some solo shots of big brother as well–something I like to do during these milestone sessions when there are older siblings. It helps them feel included. Plus, parents love having these keepsakes for their other kids, too. And then it was all about Miss S. Some portraits of her in her pretty pink dress and bow. And then it was time for the smash!
Incorporating Themes in Portrait Sessions
I love this theme so much! Bumble bees are near and dear to my heart, so including them in a cake smash made me super happy. I love the way the honeycomb inspired wall art looks in the background. That motif is also on the wooden crate in a subtle nod to a beehive. Some pretty golden bumble bees around the set add just the right touch. This is a great example of how the theme can be woven throughout the set (and the cake) design without being too over the top. A theme like bumble bees can definitely go in many different direction. I love this sweet, feminine, boho inspired take on the theme.
