Christmas Photos Styling Ideas and Tips :: Massachusetts Photographer
At Crabapple Photography we LOVE Christmas photos! And because of how much we love them, we do everything in our power to make them as fun, easy, and stress free as possible for kids and parents. This includes helping make the styling aspect as easy as possible for Christmas photos, too. Which is why every year I write styling guides and give tips to parents when it comes to choosing what to wear for these photos. And the good new is, there’s not really any wrong answers! Because the most important thing is that you’re happy and in a festive mood. And being festive is a little different for everyone.
Pajamas for Christmas Photos
Some people choose to dress in fun Christmas pajamas. And I always love when parents get in on the fun with matching jammies, too! There are so many different stores that sell matching pajamas for the whole family, something that I know many clients are super grateful for. Hanna Andersson has become pretty iconic when it comes to matching jammies. But Old Navy, Children’s Place, and Target all have matching options for the whole family.
Christmas Sweaters and Casual Clothing
Some people choose to go middle of the road–not pajamas, but not formal. This usually means lots of Christmas sweaters, some plaid. All in all cozy looks that would me comfortable to wear in front of a fire. I love the idea of classic “ugly” Christmas sweaters for the whole family. Another great thing: layering for multiple options! These brothers, H&H had on the sweetest cream colored sweaters. Pop them off and underneath was a plaid button down that was equally Christmas-ready! Christmas sweaters and festive cozy garb is available at any of your favorite clothing stores. H&M, Cat & Jack, and Gap are great starting places!
Formal Options for Christmas Portraits
And some families choose to go a Sunday best, formal route for these portraits. I’ve done this in the past with my own girls so I definitely see the appeal. And thanks to stores like Janie and Jack, Hope and Henry, and even Amazon options it’s easy to find matching formal looks for siblings. And even the idea of “formal” is open to interpretation. I love that below is a trio of sisters in velvet dresses with bows. And also the D siblings in perfectly coordinating outfits. They’re different layers of formal but equally adorable!
