Fall is a beautiful time of year in New England. People drive for hours for a peek at the fall foliage. Which is why it’s no surprise that fall is such a popular time of year for outdoor family photos. Plus, after the heat and humidity of summer the freshness of fall is definitely a nice change. Styling Your Fall Family Photos
A frequent question that I’m asked is how to style family portraits. And I can understand why it might seem stressful. Choosing outfits for one person can be tricky, but when it’s for an entire family that only makes it trickier. You want the clothes to coordinate, plus you have to take into account the colors of the backdrop. All of the families on this page had different styling ideas, and they’re all great examples of what can work! I love how in the first family mom’s scarf ties together brother’s shirt and sister’s skirt. Directly above, the two brothers are picture perfect in their matching navy pullovers. Below, mom and dad let their daughter have the “hero outfit” while they kept their outfits neutral and simple.
When it comes to fall, just keep in mind the colors of fall foliage, cozy knits and textures, and lots of layers. It might be fall, but it’s fall in New England which means the temperature can change from one minute to the next!
