Essex MA Newborn Photography :: Baby R
Sweet Mr. R and his parents came to my studio from Essex MA for his newborn portraits. This little dude was an absolute rock-star when it came to giving me the best snoozing baby shots. But can we take a second to talk about those wide eyes?! It’s actually super rare to get a shot of a newborn’s eyes, especially as wide and alert as this little one’s are. Usually these tiny babies are sound asleep for most (if not all) of the session, which is exactly what we want. The studio is kept toasty warm and the lights low. And on top of that, we have white noise going at all time–check out my Instagram (@crabapplephotography) highlight titled #bts to hear the “shusher” in action. All of these factors keep the new babes sleepy and comfortable as we pose them for all of the super adorable portraits.
The super warm and comfy conditions do mean that the sight of eyes is usually momentary and fleeting. Which is why capturing them in a photo is always fun. It’s basically as exciting as seeing a rainbow!
Styling Choices for this Newborn Session
When it comes to newborn portrait styling choices, there aren’t many wrong color choices. But when in doubt, neutrals are always a great idea. For this newborn session, we used various shades of blues and greens. I love the way that the different shades of blue piled on top of one another looks, especially next to the silvery gray of the bucket. Not only do the colors pop when paired together, but the different textures add interest and depth to the photo.
The benefits of different textures can be seen throughout this session. But one of my favorite examples is definitely this great hat that baby R is wearing. I love how the texture of the hat looks against the soft knit blanket.
If you ever worry that maybe the use of neutral colors won’t add enough personality to a session, I have one word for you: props! Even something as simple as a football can add the perfect touch to a photo.
