Hi, I’m Kate McKenna, the photographer, artist, and dedicated wrangler of tiny humans behind Crabapple Photography. Since 2009, I’ve worked as a Boston-area family photographer with a focus on luxury newborn, maternity, baby, toddler, and family photography, creating refined, timeless images for families who value experience and thoughtful craftsmanship. I have had the joy of photographing more than a thousand families from Boston, the North Shore, Southern New Hampshire, and beyond, capturing everything from sleepy newborn yawns to shy toddlers finding their confidence one smile at a time. Sixteen Years of Experience

My perspective as a photographer deepened in 2013 when I became a mom to twins, an experience that reshaped not only my life, but the way I work. Parenthood taught me patience, presence, and the importance of slowing down. I don’t rush shy toddlers or sleepy newborns; I wait, observe, and anticipate the moments that unfold naturally. In 2017, I moved my studio from Medford to my current thoughtfully designed space in Andover. It is a place where creativity and baby giggles collide. Today, I work with families from Greater Boston — including Cambridge, Somerville, Arlington, and surrounding communities — who are looking for a calm, experienced approach and portraits that feel genuine, natural, and enduring.

I work with a limited number of families each year to provide a fully guided, high-touch experience from start to finish. Every session is intentionally planned and unhurried, allowing space for babies and children to settle naturally. My role is to lead the process with calm expertise so you can relax and enjoy it, even with toddlers in the mix!
