This Salisbury Beach family session was everything I love about photographing families by the water: relaxed, joyful, and full of genuine connection. As a Massachusetts beach photographer, I live for golden hour on the coast and the way soft natural light brings out the warmth between family members. At the time of this session, the siblings were 14, 11, 7, and 5 which are all such great ages for different reasons.

Capturing Connection Through Natural Light Beach Family Photography

We aimed for a relaxed family photo session, letting the kids be themselves while capturing candid moments as the sun set behind the dunes. Natural interactions like these are what make natural light beach family photography so timeless. I’ve been photographing in New England since 2009. Which means that I have learned a thing or two about timing. This session was in late September, about an hour before sunset. This made for beautiful cotton candy skies and gorgeous natural light.
