Multi-Generational Family Photo Session | Lexington MA Photographer for Grandparents, Parents & Toddlers
There’s something truly special about photographing multiple generations in one session, especially when the portraits include a bond as tender and joyful as the one between a grandparent and grandchild. As a Lexington MA family photographer, I have the honor of freezing these fleeting moments for families to cherish forever. In this session, we celebrated a sweet 3 year old boy, his parents, and his grandmother. And let me tell you, the connection between this little guy and his grandma? Pure love.
These are the kinds of portraits that become heirlooms. A snuggle, a giggle, a kiss. One of Mr. J and his grandmother holding hands as they walk along my studio. All of these quiet interactions often become the most meaningful photographs.
Accommodating Every Generation with Comfort and Care in Lexington MA
One of the beautiful parts of multi-generational sessions is that they don’t need to be complicated or physically demanding. We understand that not every family member can stand for long periods of time, and that’s absolutely okay. In fact, we build our sessions around comfort and accessibility. This is also why it’s nice to have a session like this that is part family, part milestone. There are plenty of different photo combinations, allowing each family member to get a little break at some point. Whether that’s to take a seat, have a snack or some water, or just be out of the spotlight for a minute.
At my Andover, MA photography studio, I’ve designed the space to be relaxed and welcoming for all ages and mobility levels. We use comfortable seating, take breaks as needed, and always prioritize making sure everyone feels supported both physically and emotionally. I love being in my studio, and I strive to make everyone feel just as at home and comfortable as I feel.
Whether it’s a grandparent who prefers to sit or a toddler who needs to wiggle and play, we meet everyone where they are. The result? Natural, heartfelt portraits that reflect real connection. The best portraits are the ones that look real!
Solo, Family, and Everything In Between
In this particular Lexington MA photography session, we made sure to capture a variety of images. I made sure to get some of the birthday boy solo (because three is such a fun age!). For this session, mom and dad brought along some books for Mr. J to pull in a wagon. I loved this idea! You can check out his 2 year photos here: Lexington Toddler Photos.
We also got plenty of photos with his parents, and of course, those treasured moments with his grandma. I’m lucky that I get to see this family every year to help celebrate Mr. J’s birthday. In fact, he was just in my studio recently celebrating birthday number 5!
