Springtime Portraits for Children

Styling, Posing, and Set design Ideas for Springtime Child Portraits :: Massachusetts Photographer

I love Springtime! The soft pastel colors, the flowers, the first warm day of the year. Even though this week has been a bit on the gloomy and chilly side, I still know that spring is here (at least technically). And with spring comes one of my favorite seasonal portrait times of the year: Easter! I offer a very limited number of Easter mini sessions with live bunnies, chicks, and ducks. Unfortunately those are all booked for this season. However, if you’re looking for springtime portraits for your children, reach out! I can add some springtime flair to any session.

For this blog post, I tried to grab as many photos from last year’s mini sessions that didn’t have the cute little animals as a main focal point in the photo. So pretend the ones that are there, aren’t! And you’ll see that these springtime and Easter portraits can still be very sweet and seasonal even without the animals. I curate my seasonal mini session sets to be fun, colorful, and cozy. And the good news is that even if you weren’t able to snag one of my live animal mini sessions, you still have options!

Incorporating the Season into Your Photos

When it comes to making any session a little extra special, one way to do it is to consider the season. No matter what season it is, there are plenty of ways to add that special influence to your photos. In winter that can mean adding snowflakes, pine trees, or even some buffalo plaid. In the fall we can go with pumpkins, fallen leaves, and all those gorgeous foliage colors. And when it comes to summer we can go with bright colors, nautical motifs, and maybe even some picnic inspired imagery. So what about for springtime?

Adding Springtime Colors to Your Child Portraits

The most obvious ways to add springtime touches to your child portraits is in the colors. Pastels are a definite go-to for springtime. Shades of pink, yellow, light greens and blues are all perfect. But if you’re more of a neutral person, whites and creams, light beiges, and light grays all work. Especially if you add just the slightest pop of pastel. And if you like brighter colors, don’t let all the talk of pastels influence you away from that either!

Clothing is the perfect way to really reflect the season. I recently posted my Spring 2025 What to Wear Guide full of inspiration photos, links, and ideas. Check it out here: What to Wear for Easter 2025. You can always check out my Pinterest board for even more inspiration, too.

Springtime Props and Accessories

Another great way to include spring in your portraits is with props and accessories. Flowers definitely give the perfect springtime vibe. And the greatest thing about flowers is that there are so many different ways to incorporate them. If your little one isn’t quite sitting up on their own, I have props that they can lay inside of and be surrounded by flowers. If you have an older kiddo, they can hold a bouquet of faux tulips like Miss I down below. There are so many options!

While the live animals aren’t an option besides during the one mini session, bunny and chick motifs are a great way to bring a springtime flare. Stuffed animals of bunnies, chicks, ducks, or sheep would be the perfect addition to a spring-y photo.
