Ideas for Fun Easter or Springtime Portraits :: Andover MA Photographer

When it comes to child portrait photography, I think we should always have a little fun. It’s important that all the smiles are as real as can be. This rings true for every session I have in (or outside of) my photography studio in Andover, MA. But it is especially true when it comes to my seasonal mini sessions. I offer these a few times a year for various holidays and seasons. And one of the most fun mini sessions I offer is my springtime and Easter photos!
Here are just some of the ways I make these mini sessions fun for children
Keep it Stress Free

The most important thing is that I keep everything as stress free as possible. For parents AND for kiddos. Trust me when I say that your little ones can feel your stress and it definitely rubs off on them. It can definitely seem stressful when you hear that the session is only 15 minutes. But we really are a well oiled machine at this point and can absolutely get all of the great shots accomplished in that amount of time. Plus it’s way less time for your child to get stir crazy. A win all around!
Make the Studio Colorful and Cozy

I always have so much fun designing the set for all of these seasonal mini sessions. And thanks to the abundance of backdrops available these days, it’s actually pretty stress-free for myself, too. I always try to have two different options that are very different to give a good amount of variety in each gallery. Typically I think of it as a darker and a lighter option. Sometimes that means more colorful and more neutral, or sometimes it’s quite literally a lighter and darker side of the studio. Either way, there’s always variety but there is also always color and coziness. From the second your family comes into the studio, the sets are fun and inviting for everyone.
Have plenty of Fun Easter Props and Accessories

Whether it’s a cute little chair to sit in or the perfect faux flowers, having props and accessories do so much for a set design. Obviously they make the set look adorable and add plenty of dimension and visual interest. But they can also help to make the set fun for your children, too. While the backdrops that are readily available make it so easy to find adorable set designs, sitting in front of a two dimensional backdrop isn’t exactly an exciting experience for kids. But making that 2D backdrop come to life with other props and accessories makes it way more fun for everyone!
Interact and Make it A Game

One of the best ways to make these sessions fun for everyone is to interact with the children. And sometimes that means breaking out our secret weapon: the fart game! We truly have no use for being dignified when it comes to portrait sessions. We will make all the fart noises needed to get the best smiles and laughs out of your kiddo. But don’t worry, we have plenty of other little games and ways to interact and get the best portraits. Asking silly questions, pretending to get the answers wrong so they can laughingly correct us, and so on. By having fun, we make it fun!
Bunnies, Chicks, and Ducklings Make for Fun Easter Portraits!

And of course, I can’t forget to mention the bunnies, chicks and ducklings! I first offered sessions with live bunnies years and years ago. But over the past few years it has become an annual tradition of mine. And it is so much fun for kids of all ages. For the really little ones, we prop the animals next to them and they might give them a little pat or two. But for any older kids, it’s possible to give some cuddles. My absolute favorite has to be the ones with little chicks perched on a kiddo’s shoulder. Such a fun little added treat for these Easter photos!
