Miss L’s 7th Birthday Portrait Session in the Boston Area
I have been photographing Miss L since she was a teeny tiny baby, which makes sessions like this one especially meaningful. It is hard to believe she is now seven. Watching families grow over the years is one of the most rewarding parts of being a Boston child photographer, and her sessions have always been full of personality, creativity, and a little bit of fun.
Seven is such a distinct age. Not little kids, not quite big kids. Just kids in that in between stage where their personalities really start to shine. They are expressive, funny, and completely themselves, which makes for incredibly natural portraits.

A Personality Filled Birthday Portrait Session
We always begin Miss L’s sessions with a few family portraits before shifting the focus fully to her. It creates a relaxed start and gives us a chance to capture those meaningful connections before moving into her individual portraits.
For her 7th birthday session, everything was designed to reflect her personality:
- A pink dress with a soft, tutu style skirt
- Pink and white balloons
- A light, simple setup
- A touch of digitally added magic
And, true to her past sessions, there was a fun twist. This time it was cats. The cat themed birthday banner added just the right amount of humor and made the entire session feel uniquely hers.

Why Age Seven Is Perfect for Child Portraits
In the studio, I photograph a lot of babies and toddlers. Those early milestone sessions are special, but sessions with older children bring something entirely different.
At this age, children:
- Are more confident in who they are
- Engage naturally without needing much direction
- Let their personality come through in a genuine way
That combination makes sessions feel easy and images feel authentic. It is one of the reasons I love offering studio child photography for Boston and North Shore families beyond the baby years.

Miss L’s Portraits Over the Years
One of the most meaningful parts of this work is documenting the same child as they grow. Each session becomes part of a larger story.
