Ideas for Local Activities for Weekdays for Babies and Toddlers :: Andover MA
Happy September First! It might not officially be fall. But the school year has begun (or is about to, depending on your school district). This can mean hectic mornings as we get the school age kids ready for school. And hectic evenings as they get off the bus, and dinner gets made. But what about those hours in between? Especially when there are little kids not yet school age. I have twins so both of my littles were off to school at the same time. But I know from before they were school age that keeping babies and toddlers occupied isn’t always easy. So to help out a bit, I’ve compiled a list with ideas of things to do in the area. These are ideas for those with babies and toddlers looking for some weekday activities!

Playgrounds
Personally I love the weather during the fall. I think it is the ideal time for playing on playgrounds. Plus, during the day without school age kids is a great time for smaller kiddos to play on play structures. Here is a list of some playgrounds I’ve brought my own girls to over the years. Starting in our town of Andover and going to other towns such as North Andover, Littleton, Ipswich, Wakefield, and Chelmsford here’s a list of some great playgrounds:
Friendship Park in Chelmsford MA
Ballardvale Playground in Andover
Castle in the Trees in Littleton
Drummond Playground in North Andover
Spaulding Playground in Wakefield
State parks and reservations are also a great option for weekday fun and activities! Bradley Palmer is a fantastic spot for kids and families. Walden Pond in Concord is another must see!
Indoor Playgrounds
Sometimes the weather just isn’t great for outdoor play. Such is the case when you live in New England! When I started looking for indoor playgrounds in the area, I was surprised by just how many there are! Many of these I haven’t been to, so I can’t actually attest to how great they are. But they all look like they’re worth trying out! When it comes to fun during a weekday for kids and toddlers, these are great spots to begin for fun outings and activities.

Farms and Petting Zoos
While the weather IS still nice, how about visiting a farm or petting zoo? We are coming into Apple and Pumpkin Picking season, after all!
Parlee Farms in Tyngsboro has farm animals, pick your own fruits and flowers, and so much more!
Boston Hill Farm in North Andover has pick your own, plus the option to feed the farm animals!
Smolak Farm in North Andover has so many options, the best cider donuts, and is a great place to visit in the fall!
Not quite a petting zoo but The Butterfly Place in Westford is so much fun and definitely something to experience!
Coffee and Lunch
We can’t talk about weekday activities without also talking about lunch and coffee spots. I’ve compiled some of my go-to options in or near downtown Andover. They’re spots that are great options to sit and eat OR to grab some takeout for your adventure!
Crack’d Kitchen is my go to for yummy lunch and coffee just off of I-93
Somebody’s Place is right next to our studio and has the BEST donuts! Their sandwiches are amazing, too.
Otto Pizza in downtown Andover has very yummy pizza.
U-Burger in downtown has delicious burgers and chicken.
