Chinese 100 Day Baby Portraits Boston Celebrating An Important Milestone

One of the things I love most about photographing milestone sessions is learning about the traditions families choose to celebrate during their baby’s first year. This session featured sweet baby E, who came to the studio from Boston for his Chinese 100 day baby celebration portraits, celebrating an incredibly meaningful milestone in his family’s culture. I always love a 3 month baby portrait session, but celebrating cultural baby celebration photography like 100 day baby photos is extra special.

Over the years, I have photographed many families honoring this tradition, and every single session reminds me how special it is when photography becomes part of preserving family history and cultural traditions. The Meaning Behind Chinese 100 Day Baby Celebrations

For many families, a baby reaching one hundred days old is a major milestone worth celebrating. Historically, the earliest months of infancy were considered the most fragile stage of life. Reaching one hundred days marked strength, health, and a joyful reason for family celebration.

Today, many families continue this tradition through family gatherings, celebrations, and professional portraits that preserve this important chapter. I absolutely love seeing families intentionally slow down and celebrate milestones like this during the whirlwind of the first year.

Why Three Month Baby Portraits Are Such A Wonderful Age

At one hundred days old, babies have moved beyond the sleepy newborn phase but are not quite sitting independently yet. I often think of these sessions as the perfect middle ground between newborn portraits and sitter milestone sessions. At this stage, babies are beginning to smile socially, make stronger eye contact, and show so much more personality.

Baby E was absolutely wonderful during his session. He was full of expressions, gave us beautiful smiles, and absolutely nailed tummy time. Sessions at this age allow us to capture so much personality while still preserving those soft baby features that change so quickly.

Styling This Boston Baby Milestone Session

For this session, we kept the overall styling simple and timeless. The color palette focused primarily on soft neutrals with a bright pop of blue that added beautiful contrast throughout the gallery.

I always remind parents that variety during a session doesn’t always come from changing colors. Texture can make just as much impact. For baby E’s portraits, we incorporated soft fur textures, chunky knit blankets, and layered fabrics that created subtle visual interest while keeping the focus entirely on him.

Mom and dad brought along the most adorable vest and bowtie for one portion of the session and honestly, I immediately fell in love with the entire look.

Family Portraits During Milestone Sessions

I always encourage parents to step into the frame whenever possible. While solo baby portraits are wonderful, family photographs help preserve the entire story of this stage in life.

The early months disappear quickly. Years from now, these portraits become a reminder not just of what baby looked like, but what this season of parenthood felt like.
