WHAT EXACTLY IS A MINI SESSION AND WHAT ARE IT’S LIMITATIONS?
A mini session is a great and fun way to get a few photos of your baby or child. Mini sessions typically last 15 minutes. They are sessions scheduled back to back on a predetermined date, with very little wiggle room in the schedule.
There are some cases where a full session makes more sense for a particular family. To try to avoid frustration or disappointment here they are:
1. If you have a large family. Mini sessions are super short. It’s important to be realistic about what we are able to capture in that time. If you have 3, 4 or 5 children, there will not be enough time for sibling, family and individual child portraits.
2. If your child is very shy and takes some time to warm up. Or conversely, if your child is in a wild child phase (they all go through it!), 15 minutes may not be enough time to coax him or her into the portrait you’re looking for. A full session would give your child time to warm up, or warm down – whichever the case may be 🙂
3. If you are looking for a variety of sets, outfit changes and “looks.” Again, with only 15 minutes, there isn’t a lot of time for outfit changes. If that is what you are looking for, contact me about a full session and we’ll plan it together. That’s the fun part!
4. If you won’t be happy with letting the child (and child’s mood!) affect the style of photos we are able to capture. There is no accounting for mood of a child on the day of the mini session. Keep in mind he or she may be tired and not super cooperative. I’ve never not been able to fill a gallery, but if there is very specific shot you’re looking for, it just makes sense to book a longer session where we have the luxury of time to get that shot for you.
I hope that didn’t scare you. Cause really, mini sessions can be and are mostly all about FUN! Contact me at kate@crabapplephotography.com with any questions!
