Medford Family Newborn Photographer :: Baby A

Living in Medford, MA has it’s perks. Specifically, the Hillside neighborhood of Medford. I can’t remember exactly when I first met Dina, Erik + Wendall. My Mom was pushing my lady babies around the neighborhood in a stroller and met them first. I kept hearing we had a neighbor with a son very close in age to our girls. I was eager to meet them and when I finally did, I learned they were both Boston Globe photographers at one time. To say I felt a connection immediately would be accurate. They were, and continue to both be photographers, but had added the job title of “farmers” to their resumes and long list of talents. They run the Plough & Stars Project, a neighborhood CSA program.

Reading the Plough & Stars Project mission statement gives me the chills:

We Seek To Live And Nurture Lives Of Meaningful Connection: Connection To The Earth, Connection To Each Other, Connection To Our Work And Connection To Our Food.

Through These Connections We Strive To: Steward Land, Nourish Bodies, Quiet Minds And Foster Community.

We Struggle With The Hurried And Consumptive Nature Of Our Lives, And Yearn At The Same Time For More And For Less.

We Believe That Living Closer To The Earth Brings Us Closer To The Divine – And That, At Its Essence, Is What We Celebrate…

Their goal is to nourish our neighborhood, mind, body and soul. Their mission statement gives me the chills because it resonates my highest priorities loud and clear. I strive for all of these things. I generally fail on a consistent basis, but this family is absolutely killing it and bringing our whole neighborhood along for the ride. They are getting each of us a little bit closer to the reality of their mission statement. For that, I am very thankful.

Their second child, a baby girl, was born prematurely. I’m sure it was a scary time for all as she spent some time in the NICU. But by the time I saw meet Auden, a few weeks later, she was a healthy and thriving little newborn.

Whenever a fellow photographer sees fit to book me as their family photographer, I am so grateful and humbled. With this family I felt like I had won some kind of award as Dina picked up my camera and snapped a few photos of me working with and posing her baby girl. I don’t have any photos of me in action and Dina, ever the photojournalist, saw a moment to capture. I’ll include some of those images below.

But first, the cute baby! You have to see this first sibling shot. This portrait hits me straight to the heart, every time I see it. It makes me wish I had another baby just to get the girls snuggling with him or her!
