Children’s Christmas Portraits Ideas: Santa! NO MALL!
Do you remember going to the mall to sit on Santa’s lap? Getting dressed up, driving all the way to the mall only to get inside and realize you weren’t the only one to think it might be a good idea to get Santa portraits that day? In fact, yours was one of dozens of families with the bright idea? Well, I do. It was uncomfortable. And that is from the child’s perspective. I can only imagine all of the poor parents!
I can also remember children and babies being terrified as they were handed off to this larger than life character and told to say “cheese” at the camera. A couple of Christmases ago I was in a mall with my lady babies who were in fact, babies at the time. I wanted pretty desperately to get a photo of them with Santa. But I knew for absolute sure that one of them would scream her head off the entire time and the other one was about a 50/50 chance. I just didn’t want to do that to them, it made me sad to even think about. So, I decided that I would bring Santa to my studio. This way families didn’t have to wait in line. They had a set time they would come to my studio, no waiting in lines. They would have a full 15 minutes to get to know and warm up to Santa. For some families, it wouldn’t be their first visit to the studio. This is comforting for the baby or child.
Last year was the first year I brought Santa to my studio. I’m not saying there wasn’t a tear or two shed, but I would say that I was able to take a little chunk of anxiety out of the holiday season for a few families. No lines, less scared babies.
As you’re scrolling down past a few of the adorable shots I was able to get last year, find yourself on the very last set of portraits. This adorable baby girl was absolutely terrified of Santa. So, we took our time and Santa disappeared for awhile. We got stunning, magical photos of this baby girl that her and her family with cherish for ever. Not to mention a killer Christmas card for last year!
