Maternity Portraits :: 2 Year Old Portraits

Apparently there’s not much cuter than a recently turned 2 year old attempting to blow bubbles. Behold:

That’s right, little baby James turned 2 years old (well, ok a couple of months ago, but I’ve explained I’m a bit behind, cut me some slack!). In addition to capturing this very special milestone with portraits, Mom and Dad had another fantastic reason for wanting family portraits. Baby #2! (And yes, baby #2 has been born + photographed, but you’re gonna have to wait, hopefully not too long, to see baby #’2 gorgeous newborn shots). Check out these fun belly shots:

I knew this maternity photo session was going to be a good one when I spoke to the client for the very first time. She mentioned she and her husband loved the light in my photos. They wanted simple, clean photos with beautiful light. That’s not a request I get everyday! I was really excited to meet this couple and the session did not disappoint. They were fun and really cute together while we played with a lot of different lighting situations. This couple was also extraordinary because they were in the studio for their pregnancy pics on a Saturday and ended up with a baby the following Tuesday! We made it in the nick of time. I’ve already photographed their beautiful newborn baby girl and will be posting her photos here on Tuesday (after the long weekend–enjoy!), so stay tuned – you do not want to miss these (update: check out the newborn portraits here)!

I thought it fitting to post this couple’s maternity photos today. Why? Because they are back in the studio today … with their brand spanking new son! This couple has elected to take part in the complete baby to one year plan and I have to admit- I’m pretty excited.

I always think it’s a fantastic idea to incorporate items that represent who you are into your maternity shots. Some items people include are things the baby will own or wear, or things Mom or Dad owned or wore as a baby. For this couple’s maternity photos we incorporated hand made booties made with love by the baby’s Grandmother, a “puppy love” bib that is a nod to the couple’s existing four “babies” (dogs) among other things. I had trouble narrowing down photos for this post as it was, but there were quite a few shots incorporating Dad’s love of the Florida Gators. Incorporating Mom or Dad’s favorite sports team is not rare! Enjoy the photos and stay tuned for this baby’s newborn session!

Maternity Portrait Photography + 2 Year Old Portraits Boston

GUESS who is about to be an older brother? He has made several appearances on this blog, including photos I took when he was about 8 hours old. None other than the just recently turned two years old Thomas! His Mama wanted to do a maternity session for the soon-to-be newest family member- a baby boy, and include Thomas for some early sibling photos I can’t believe it has been 2 years since I shot the photos for Thomas’ belly portraits. I love maternity portrait photography, there’s so much excitement and energy, even when there isn’t a 2 year old involved! Pregnancy portrait sessions are always somewhat surreal to me, not yet having been pregnant myself. But coupled with the fact that this Mom was my college roommate, looking at these photos is practically mind blowing. We managed to get a whole bunch of belly shots including Mom, Dad, Thomas and of course, just the baby bump. Then, seeing as though it’s Thomas’ second birthday, we got some fantastic 2 year old portraits. Stay tuned for new baby boy’s newborn photos and sibling shots!

Maternity Portrait Photography :: Boston Photographer

Maternity portrait photography is a wonderful thing. Upon hearing that I am a baby photographer, most older woman will more often than not eventually inquire if I’ve ever heard of women having their photos taken while they are pregnant. I nod my head politely. Of course I have, I photograph pregnant woman all the time and it is beautiful! A number of these woman are somewhat appalled although a few admit they wish this sort of option had been available to them when they were expecting. I agree. Most people credit the popularity of pregnancy portraits to Annie Leibovitz’s popular 1991 Vanity Fair photo shoot of Demi Moore. I now realize how big of scandal it was at the time. Once again, thanks Annie for blazing the path.

I don’t think maternity portraits are everyone’s cup of tea, but I will say there is an amazing energy at every one of my maternity photo sessions. On average most woman in the US will be pregnant less than twice in their lives. Pregnancy is a very special and exciting moment in life and I say — document it!

This couple, although living in Boston now, are Russian transplants (this only becomes relevant with the chalk board photo below!). Our maternity session was full of energy and excitement and beautiful shots:

Cambridge Maternity Portrait Photography

Sometimes you’re just lucky. With this maternity portrait photography session, I was just that: lucky. I got a call from a somewhat concerned and eager pregnant woman looking for a belly session, tomorrow! Turns out she had booked a session with a photographer who found himself in the position of being sick. Any shade of sickness is never a good thing for many of our clients to be around. So, I was very lucky and happy to have the availability and be able work with this expecting Cambridge couple. They were fantastic to work with: easy going, creative and up for most anything!

Stay tuned over the next month for this couple’s newborn portraits, I can’t wait to meet their little baby boy (neither can they, I’m sure!) I always love a good maternity portrait session, it’s like witnessing the calm before the storm …

I’ve said to before, I’ll say it again and no doubt, again! I love photographing pregnant woman, there is so much excitement and anticipation swirling around you could reach out and grab it.

Maternity portraits are super special because they capture a very unique moment in life. Depending on number of pregnancies (obviously I suppose), your body will only be in this state a handful or less times in your life. I find this truly amazing and humbling. Check out a few pregnancy photos from a recent maternity photo shoot Boston. This pregnancy is the first of this couple, and they did great for their session! We’re all pretty psyched we got the photos in when we did because a short week later they welcomed their baby girl! We’ve already taken newborn photos (check out the sneak peek!). Boston Maternity Photography :: Belly Photos!

It does not get any cuter than these two and their belly photo shoot! Pregnant ladies are my new favorite people on earth. Eleana exuded adorableness throughout the entire shoot. These two are going to have a beautiful baby and the best part is … I get to photograph him or her as a newborn, 3 month old, 6 month old and 1 year old (And you get to see the photos too, so stay tuned).
