Meet baby girl E! Her parents are from England and had just recently moved to New York from a couple year stint in Boston (lots and lots of great locations to live!). They came back to Boston to celebrate baby E’s first birthday and get some one year old portraits taken of her. They wanted iconic Boston so we hit the Esplanade! It was refreshing. The Boston Common is certainly very popular, but I rarely shoot on the Esplanade so it was a treat for me. We had a blast walking around and playing in the leaves on this particular fall day. Up next on the blog: Aj’s 6 month baby portraits! (If you’re keeping track, I just shot AJ’s 1st birthday cake smash so I am officially 6 months behind. Don’t judge.) We started off his baby photo session at the studio in Medford and got some great smiley shots of AJ. We snuck in some absolutely heart melting Christmas baby photos before heading to the park to try and capture family photos outdoors. AJ might have been a *tad* sick of me at that point. Although you’ll notice in the last picture he’s got a big grin. SCORE! Sometimes all it takes is a fake sneeze / acting like a fool.

Happy May Day! Unfortunately it’s a bit rainy and yucky on this particular day here in the Boston area. However, nothing like a couple of cute kids snuggled up in a hug in the gorgeous autumn light for their outdoor family portraits to take the edge off! This family took part in my fall family mini sessions this past November. Great family, fun loving kids and some leaves to jump in and throw around, perfect!

HOORAY for leaf piles!! And HOORAY for autumn family portraits! Every season has it’s perks. Don’t tell summer, spring or winter (ok you can tell winter) – but autumn is my favorite season for it’s endless amount of perks. Gorgeous light, color and this little baby girl’s family session – a pile of newly fallen leaves to play in!

Such a smiley, fun little baby girl! We had a great mini session. I’m going to relish this summer, but these photos will make the end of summer bearable

These baby portraits were taken at a park in Medford in early November during a day of marathon outdoor mini sessions. Family fall portraits outdoors are just so fantastic. The light coming through the trees is absolutely delicious and full of so much color. Mix in an adorable fur vest, a cute baby and you have some great fall portraiture! Check out baby J below:

Meet baby girl E and her twin brother Q! I love my job because it keeps me on my toes. An 18 month old portrait client can be a (fun) challenge. A lot of running around but always well worth it. Now multiply that by 2! Twice the challenge, twice the fun and just as worth it I met up with this family at the Winchester Country Club for these outdoor family photos. The first two photos in this blog post are pretty accurate of the day. “OMG the baby’s are sitting AND next to each other!” Snap. And they’re off. In completely different directions. I applaud all parents of twins out there everywhere! I really enjoyed this session – the family, the setting and the results. Also really cool is these two were born July 31, 2010. Family Photographer Andover :: Smolak Farms

Fall family photos at Smolak Farms in North Andover, Massachusetts … yes please! This particular fall day was gorgeous, it was light and bright. However, a little too chilly to spend a lot of time outside! We made the best of it and used Smolak Farm’s rustic barn and indoor eating area. The two sisters in this family are just so cute together! A very loving family and a great way to pass an autumn afternoon. Especially when it ends with a Smolak Farms delicious donut!

Billerica Family Photos :: Outdoor Family Portraits

You might remember this set of three siblings from last year’s (I guess two autumns ago at this point!) family portrait session at Great Brook Farm State Park. Just as rambunctious, full of laughter, yells, hoots and hollers as the year before! And now with the youngest mobile there was a lot of running around. Absolutely perfect. One of my favorite family photos from the session occurred during our futile attempt to get a “posed” shot with the three kiddos and Mom. The posed setup quickly fell apart into a pig pile of laughter and in my opinion – a much better photo!

This session is also a great example of “what to wear to your photo session.” All three kids looked great on their own with sisters in their matching dresses. The sisters outfits matched big brother’s in color and style perfectly.

Walden pond at any time is gorgeous. The fall is an absolutely perfect time, however, to hit Walden pond for some outdoor family photos. Which is exactly what I did with 16 month old Bella and her family this past fall. Bella has the most mesmerizing gorgeous eyes (see below!). Mom and Dad brought along a basket of apples which were a hit. She was a bit weary to give out the smiles at times so props to Dad (and of course Mom helped!) for his running around like a wild man behind me to get the smiles. So worth it- she’s an absolute beauty and charmer!

Get ready for some fun outdoor family portraits! It may be April, but these photos conjure smells of autumn! Gorgeous fall light, leaves to play around in and sunshine to bask in. For this family portrait session we hit a nearby park in Medford, Massachusetts. Almost 2 years old, this toddler was a bit shy at first. But nothing a little swing through the air from Dad and some leaves to throw around couldn’t cure.

Eeeeerp, rewind. Mid-October: gorgeous weather, light and foliage in Somerville. Perfect for outdoor fall family portraits. I meet up with this wonderful extended family at a nearby park in Somerville, Massachusetts. With a three year old boy in tow we meandered around the park trying to make him laugh and generally capture photos this family can treasure forever. In an effort to get through the 100 sessions I have left to post from October to now, I’m trying to keep down the number of photos I post. This family session had so many great photos – it was so hard to choose! The first one below is a favorite of mine, three year old G is so proud to be walking at the head of the family!

Fun family portraits! That’s what it’s all about. There’s definitely a place for studio posed portraits, but there’s something great about being able to capture a family in their own home. This family had a gorgeous 3 year old girl and a super cute, cuddly 4 month old baby boy. I arrived at their home and captured each child in their room. Check out the 3 year old’s room in the 2nd photo below – love all the pink! She was a bit shy at first but warmed up and we were able to get some fun, smiley photos of the whole family!

Outdoor Fall Family Photos :: Massachusetts Portraits

Back in October I headed to Connors Farm in Danvers, Massachusetts to meet up with this fantastic family of four. The Mom of this family happens to be the sister of a bride who’s wedding I shot a couple of years ago. I was able to meet the whole family, kiddos and all at the wedding. But what a difference the year plus in between the wedding, and this family portrait session makes! These two absolutely gorgeous kids were so much fun to photograph. Neither was what I would exactly call “shy” by any stretch! They were a blast as we did some apple picking and generally meandered around the beautiful apple orchid in Danvers. The sun was perfect and we were able to get some really fantastic outdoor fall family photos that I hope this family will enjoy for years to come.

In the beginning of last October (yes, October), I had the pleasure of photographing baby Mackenzie for the 3rd time. I was lucky enough to photograph her newborn photos and her 6 month professional portraits. This time I got to shoot her 1 year old portraits. What a difference a year makes! Mac is such an adorable little love bug. She was super smiley for us outside. When I look at these photos of her in the carriage I cannot help but laugh. She’s contagious! We were able to incorporate her pups into some outdoor family photographs we took as well. We ended the session with a bang – cake smash photos!! Mac wasn’t too into the whole thing but she looked darned cute anyway. I’ve since photographed her newborn baby girl sister .. coming up on the blog!

Fun Summer Photos! Kennebunk, Maine Family Photography

Ahhhh, the beginning of July! So much summer fun left to be had. There’s no where better to be in the beginning of July than on a beach in Maine! Or perhaps running through a sprinkler. Or hosing your sister down while she wears an adorable pink strawberry boots + umbrella set. We did all of this and more with the T family! With three kids there is no shortage of activity, I know I had a blast and I think they did too … check out the summertime family photos! Ahhhhhh, summer……

Summer Portraits on the Beach :: Kennebunk, Maine

Last winter I got an inquiry about photographing an extended family. On the beach. In Maine. In July. Yes please! Fourth of July weekend I headed up to Kennebunk, Maine to photograph this gorgeous family of 17 on the beach (Parsons, if you’re curious). The family consisted of 2 parents, their 4 adult children, their children’s 3 spouses and their children’s 8 children. Although these cousins all live a few hours from each other, you’d never tell. They had a blast playing and laughing together. Actually, so did the entire family, it was really fun to photograph them. Check ‘em out, and feel the … SUMMER!

Newborn Portrait Photographer

Having a newborn portrait photographer in the family has it’s benefits! When my sister-in-law announced she was expecting baby #2, it was a no brainer that I would be photographing the newest member of my family. This newest little member turned out to be baby girl Violet, and what a beauty she is! Shortly after her (rather abrupt) arrival in early April, LG and I took a trip to DC to meet Violet and congratulate her Mom, Dad and older brother Cameron. She was absolutely perfect in every way! Be sure to check out my sister-in-law’s blog Mommy FTW (For The Win) where she shares her child rearing experiences and everyday victories being a Mom.

It just so happens that Violet’s front yard was full of her namesake flower! Somewhat out of character, it was a balmy 80 degrees that day so we took advantage and went outside:

(L) Seasonally, DC is a few weeks ahead of us here in Boston. It was wonderful to see all the spring time growth happening down there. (R) Nothing like a brand new baby to really get in the mood of spring and new growth!

When was the last time you and your husband or wife got your portraits taken? Just the two of you? If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the past few years, it’s that life is short and time is fleeting. It’s not just your kids that are changing and evolving. You + your spouse are as well. Speaking of kids, this couple has two very cute ones! Their youngest was at the studio for his 1st birthday cake smash photos, while their oldest was here for her 5th birthday portraits involving delicious cupcakes, tutus and a tea party! But don’t forget how this gorgeous family started … with these two falling in love!

6 Month Old Baby Portraits Boston :: Baby Mac

I’m so happy to be sharing with you this pretty little lady’s 6 month portraits! I first met baby girl Mac during her newborn portrait session. She has changed so much in 6 short months! Namely, she has a gorgeous head full of red hair. Her Mom brought in an outfit that she herself had worn for her 6 month portraits – it was genius! I loved it and I’m sure Mac will also. Unfortunately she was feeling a little under the weather for our session. That didn’t stop us from getting some really great shots, thanks Mom + Dad!
