I think if I tell you one more time how much I love the light fall has to offer you’ll come through the screen and strangle me. BUT! This outdoor fall family portrait session is such a perfect example of the deliciousness that is fall. Oh, and the kids … so cute! I’ve been lucky enough to photograph each child separately before for their respective birthdays. It was great to see them again, and in these adorable outfits! The first shot absolutely melts my heart, hope it melts yours as well.

Happy May Day! Unfortunately it’s a bit rainy and yucky on this particular day here in the Boston area. However, nothing like a couple of cute kids snuggled up in a hug in the gorgeous autumn light for their outdoor family portraits to take the edge off! This family took part in my fall family mini sessions this past November. Great family, fun loving kids and some leaves to jump in and throw around, perfect!

Fall family photos at Smolak Farms in North Andover, Massachusetts … yes please! This particular fall day was gorgeous, it was light and bright. However, a little too chilly to spend a lot of time outside! We made the best of it and used Smolak Farm’s rustic barn and indoor eating area. The two sisters in this family are just so cute together! A very loving family and a great way to pass an autumn afternoon. Especially when it ends with a Smolak Farms delicious donut!

You might remember this set of three siblings from last year’s (I guess two autumns ago at this point!) family portrait session at Great Brook Farm State Park. Just as rambunctious, full of laughter, yells, hoots and hollers as the year before! And now with the youngest mobile there was a lot of running around. Absolutely perfect. One of my favorite family photos from the session occurred during our futile attempt to get a “posed” shot with the three kiddos and Mom. The posed setup quickly fell apart into a pig pile of laughter and in my opinion – a much better photo!

This session is also a great example of “what to wear to your photo session.” All three kids looked great on their own with sisters in their matching dresses. The sisters outfits matched big brother’s in color and style perfectly.

Fun family portraits! That’s what it’s all about. There’s definitely a place for studio posed portraits, but there’s something great about being able to capture a family in their own home. This family had a gorgeous 3 year old girl and a super cute, cuddly 4 month old baby boy. I arrived at their home and captured each child in their room. Check out the 3 year old’s room in the 2nd photo below – love all the pink! She was a bit shy at first but warmed up and we were able to get some fun, smiley photos of the whole family!

Back in October I headed to Connors Farm in Danvers, Massachusetts to meet up with this fantastic family of four. The Mom of this family happens to be the sister of a bride who’s wedding I shot a couple of years ago. I was able to meet the whole family, kiddos and all at the wedding. But what a difference the year plus in between the wedding, and this family portrait session makes! These two absolutely gorgeous kids were so much fun to photograph. Neither was what I would exactly call “shy” by any stretch! They were a blast as we did some apple picking and generally meandered around the beautiful apple orchid in Danvers. The sun was perfect and we were able to get some really fantastic outdoor fall family photos that I hope this family will enjoy for years to come.

Sibling Holiday Portraits

Both big brother K and little sister B have been featured on the blog before. Most recently for baby girl B’s newborn portraits. K has the most charming smile and thankfully, was more than willing to share it with me on this day. Baby girl B is 2 months in these shots and wow(!) what a difference 2 months makes. Enjoy!

I don’t know what it is, but I love a shot of baby yawning! (Even though I inevitable yawn after looking at it .. wait for it .. yup. Yawn.)

Christmas is shockingly near. Let these two little gorgeous girls help put you in the Christmas spirit! This pair of sisters had matching dresses, tights and smiles. These siblings were extremely loving toward each other, it was really nice to see. Scroll to the bottom to see the Christmas Storyboard their mama ordered up. What a fabulous idea! Their family can pull this print out every year as part of their decorations and tradition.

Meet A! She was such a sweet little girl and so fun to photograph. She came in a little bit shy. By the time we were done playing and taking photographs she had warmed up a lot. She even gave me a hug on the way out! It was much appreciated and melted my heart. Isn’t that what Christmas is all about? I hope you’re having a good season … enjoy the photos!

Ahhhh, the beginning of July! So much summer fun left to be had. There’s no where better to be in the beginning of July than on a beach in Maine! Or perhaps running through a sprinkler. Or hosing your sister down while she wears an adorable pink strawberry boots + umbrella set. We did all of this and more with the T family! With three kids there is no shortage of activity, I know I had a blast and I think they did too … check out the summertime family photos! Ahhhhhh, summer……

It’s a cool 94 degrees (104 “feels like”), here in Boston! The heat is somewhat brutal, but I’m hesitant to complain. I wait all winter long (and I do mean long!) for this weather. The adorable Elisabeth demonstrates one way to stay cool in the hot summer sun … water!

I also wanted to apologize for the lack of recent blog posts. I do have lots and lots to share and can’t wait to do so! More to come, enjoy the summer!

Child Portrait Photography :: Cassidy Turns Five!

To be a five year old child! What a fantastic age to be. At 5 years old, the world is your oyster. Or in Cassidy’s case, the world is your cupcake. And what a fantastic and delicious cupcake it was!

We started out our portrait photography session with a mini tea party. The tea party was complete with stuffed animal kitty cat guest, adorable floral tea party set, and of course … cupcakes topped with gum like cherries! The cupcakes were baked by the Sugar Plum Bakery in Kingston, Massachusetts and were pretty scrumptious. Check out the bakery if you’re in the neighborhood. Here is Cassidy, outside in the winter snow having a divine tea party in her absolutely stunning pink fluffy coat, hat and bunny snow shoes:

Wardrobe change! After our birthday tea party, Cassidy adorned a tutu and custom made tee shirt by local artist Fairtytale Tutu’s. Absolutely check our their stuff if you’re in the market for a fabulous tutu, among other adorable items. Here is Cassidy holding a thought bubble of her name that she wrote in chalk. What a smarty-pants. A beautiful smarty-pants! That is a force to be reckoned with.

Dedham Massachusetts Photographer :: Outdoor Fall Photos!

You may remember the gorgeous little Al from a year ago when I headed down to Dedham for this baby photo session. She was just so adorable and a joy to photograph I knew this time would be no different. And I was correct! We headed to a nearby park with her parents for some outdoor fall photos this past veteran’s day. It was a fantastic day with the wind blowing, leaves scattered all over the ground and gorgeous fall colors. Al had a blast running around, hiding, throwing leaves and generally being a fantastic kid and photo subject.

Yippee for State Parks in Massachusetts! Yippee for adorable, rambunctious kids in front of my camera! In November, I met up to with a family at Great Brook Farm State Park in Carlisle for some family and child photos. This fabulous family of five was a hoot from it’s oldest member (Dad-on crutches!) to it’s youngest member who wouldn’t let go of her sister’s mesmerizing purple bead necklace. Thanks for a fantastic session!

The three kids ranged from the oldest son age 6, middle daughter age 3 and youngest daughter age 8 months. The kids were absolutely charming and a blast to chase after. A special shout out to my “assistant” for the photo session: Mom! Always nice to have another person there to help corral the troops.

Kennebunk Family Photos

I was shocked to realize I had yet to blog about this family session from mid October. Then I remembered why I hadn’t. There were SO MANY shots I was having a tough time editing them down to a reasonable number and ultimately just gave up! Well today is the day, so get ready for some heart melting adorableness.

I headed up to Kennebunk for this family photo session. There were three adorable + rambunctious kids, cute hats, tutu’s, piles of leaves, pumpkins, matching dresses, gorgeous fall foliage … so many amazing photo opportunities! These three kids were no strangers to my lens. I had been up in Kennebunk for the youngest’s newborn photos about year before.

So let’s see if I can give you a taste of each of the things I listed above, in that order! Starting with “three adorable + rambunctious kids” (and their mama):

Next, “cute hats” on adorable children (I added the last part, it’s fitting!):

Thank God for little girl babies in tutu’s. Her solo shots away from her siblings, this was little Cate’s time to shine in her 1 year old portraits! She had a blast exploring the tutu and stumbling around … most of the time with the cutest, infectious smile plastered across her face.

PILES OF LEAVES! Well, one very special pile of leaves collected from neighbors and friends yards for this very purpose:

Their mom had me create a storyboard of the “jumping in leaves” series and I thought you might like to check it out. If you’re interested in a creative way to display your photos from our session, I would highly suggest going this route. Here is a blog post with some information on storyboards.

Let’s see, what’s next? Oh yes, pumpkins! And they appear to be HIGH-LARIOUS!

Boston Family Photos :: The Boston Common

I had the opportunity to photographic this fantastic family on an unseasonably warm day in mid October. The family lives within walking distance to the Boston Common and really wanted to take their family photos in what they consider their back yard. The park was absolutely gorgeous that day with the sun shining and hot, and the leaves changing color in the background. Perfect New England! The two children were equally adorable and really fun to photograph. The oldest had a blast running around the park chasing squirrels, it was pretty hilarious to watch.

Acorn Street in Beacon Hill is considered one of the most picturesque and frequently photographed street in the US. It’s easy to understand when you see it- it was built in the 1820′s and made of cobblestone. Absolutely gorgeous.

Family Portraits :: Rhode Island

Back in October, LG and I had the pleasure of heading down to Rhode Island to hang with the family of a friend (and fellow lighting guy) he works with. Mom + Dad + 2 fun and adorable little girls + tree swing + beach = great family photo session opportunity! The best part? We got to wrap it up with a fantastic home made meal.

Family Portraits Natick :: Broadmoor Audubon Society

I don’t know about you, but I’d never even heard of the Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary, a part of the Mass Audubon Society. I had no idea what I missing out on until this family contacted me for a family photo session. They had been long time Audubon Society members and knew of this location in Natick. We met there early on a Saturday morning in September. Broadmoor was a perfect and picturesque location for family portraits. I’m pretty sure if you hung out there long enough, you’d have zero recollection of the fact that you were in Natick, or even Massachusetts for that matter. Such an amazing resource to have so close to home. This was such a loving and fun family made up of Mom, Dad and their 2 beautiful boys. Check out a few of the family photos we took that day:
